Which Makeup?

I need to get my makeup done for a special occassion in the next few weeks. I'm hopeless when it comes to makeup and normally just wear the minimum if I'm going out at night.

I want to go to debenhams or something to get it done, but I don't know which brand to go with. I'm 27 so nothing too young and I'd like a very natural look.

Also, do I need to make an appointment? Or try it out before hand or will getting it done on the day suffice?

    Thanks!

I'd suggest bobbi brown and make an appointment just in case

Definitely make an appointment. You don't need to try it out beforehand once you know what you have a mind and can describe it to the artist.

You pay for the make-up application but it is redeemable against purchases so its good to pick a brand that you'll know you use. Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Nars, in BTs or Chanel in Debenhams.

I'd also suggest bobbi brown and if you buy a certain amount of products then it is for free. I've never really gotten my makeup done before except when I wanted to see if I'd buy the products but I was chatting with a friend about make up counters before and she said to always steer clear of the Mac counter but up to you.

I'd second this. I got my make up done on the MAC counter before (BT's in Limerick) and wasn't happy at all. I told them I wanted a fairly natural look and the girl doing it put really dark foundation (I'm very pale) on me. I looked orange. She paired it with bright pink lipstick and about 10 coats of mascara, talk about spider lashes.

I found she really didn't want to listen to me at all and was VERY pushy about getting me to buy stuff and got narky enough with me when I wouldn't.

I also got my make up done on the Urban Decayin Debenhams counter and loved it. They were a bit pushy too as regards selling me stuff but nothing as bad as MAC and the girl really listened to what I wanted. I really liked the look. It was very professional looking and lasted well into the night (Got it done about 12 in the morning for a wedding)

I would recommend an appointment, you never know what might happen on the day and at least you'll not have any worry coming up to the day.

I have to say Inglot in the Dundrum Centre are very good. I know what you mean about the natural look. I'm 26 and I don't like looking like I'm wearing make up. The girls there are great, not pushy at all and the make up is really reasonably priced too. I used to wear Lancome foundation and I've switched to Inglot and it's fantastic. Great coverage and lasts all day.

    Hope that helps.
