Problem installing games

My friend has a PS3 and he's having problems installing games where the screen goes black and hangs during the install. This has happened with 3 games in a row. He formatted the HD when the problem first arose and installed an F1 game which went ok but since, nothing else will install. Any ideas? Is this a common problem?…
