hello fairly new to the forum,

im just coming back from a ligament injury on my left knee, while i wasnt running i decided to go and get a gait test (john buckley sport in cork city), the day i went to the shop the camera used to record your feet was broken so the lad in there said he can just do a manual test by watching me walk around the shop and stand certain ways, after this he determined i needed stability shoes.
Fair enough i said and picked up a pair of asics GT-1260's

Now before these runner's i had a pair of asics gel-stratus 2's which i had for two year's (i know) and never had a problem with before, even after running the cork city marathon last year and a few half marathons

Since i've started slowly started running again (been out with nearly 4 months) my both knees have been very sore after a few miles, now you could put it down to the fact that i've been out with so long but, a few times over the weeks i've taken out my old asics and havnt really had a problem with my knees.

I'm worried these new runners are giving me runner's knee

I should also say that i've done that wet test where you wet your feet and stand on cardboard you see the shape of your foot, i've looked up both my new and old models of shoes and it seems that my old asics suit my feet

Did this ever happen to anyone here before or has anyone had similar situations?

I hope this post doesn't fall into the whole asking for medical advice because im not i just want to know what should i do about these f'n runners

Thanks and sorry about the long post

If you think that the shop sold you a pair of shoes that are unsuitable you should go back to them and explain that you are disatisfied. Buckley's are a reputable store and should want to help.

I'd suggest bring both pairs of shoes with you and they may be able to do a full gait test this time.

AFAIK the wet test only tells if you have high/low/normal arches - it wont tell if you have a neutral/over/underpronate.

I would recommend that you ring up, find out if the camera is working and ask to be rechecked. Simply explain the situation, there's should be no problem getting this sorted.

The onset of the knee pain may indicate too much medial support in the shoe rotating your knees ever so slightly. It can also be a shoe that is too firm for you causing excessive knee movement to absorb the shock.

Ask advised bring your old shoes along for the ride.

Not as good as proper gait analysis but if you know what your gait is try roadrunnersports.com its a US site which has a section to help you choose the correct shoes for your particular style, they def helped me !!
