Looking for an 08 Audi A5

I posted here before asking opinions on an Audi A5 and a BMW 520D. I decided to go with the A5 in the end. After putting my car up on the net, I got an offer a lot quicker than I was expecting and hoping to have the deal closed Friday.

So I'm up against time now to find one but I have been casually browsing for the last week or so. Based on the low mileage I do a year, I've decided to go for a 2008 1.8T model. Can I get your comments on what I should be looking for in terms of price and inspection. Mickdw had some very good comments before.

Here is one I have come across locally: http://chmb.ie/car-detail.php?vehicle=365_1374617
What would be a fair price for this car? Is it close to timing belt change? and would that be a big expense. I have spoken with sales and it comes with a year warranty which would also cover the window regulators.

    Thanks!

Doesnt seem too expensive to me. Thats a nice car with leather etc.
    No timing belt to replace.
It has the S line side skirts although its not got the s line bumpers. Maybe they were an option or maybe just fitted after.

They are 18" alloys Im sure although the add says 17"

Gets top marks in the looks department anyway.

Thanks Mickdw, didn't spot that about the bumper, has the s line imprinted on the seats and on the steering wheel, maybe the front bumper has been replaced

Ah no, S line interior could be ordered seperately to exterior. Maybe just ordered the stone guards (side skirts) as an option or had them fitted after. Both bumpers are non S line.

I often wondered would the little skirts look ok with the Se bumpers (like I have) and they look fine there anyway.

Wonder will it be pulled on the tinted windows during the NCT next year?

If you are taking that for a test drive, drive it out from the dealers little access road turning left toward the main road & give it a squirt of throttle while still turning left. If its anything like mine, the left front wheel will make an awful racket (jumping instead of putting power down or just spining). Wont do it if there is anyone in the front seat though. - Just so you might know what you are letting yourself in for. I believe it varies from car to car though.

Intend to first thing tomorrow. Is this a deal breaker though? With 18" wheels, would it be more prone to this?

It looks like a fairly basic car with the S-Line Sports Pack, the side skirts, and a stupid S-Line badge where the 1.8T sign should be :rolleyes:

No Bluetooth either, which would wreck my head...

Tempted to go for an A5 myself.

Thinking of the 3.0L TDi though. Don't think I'd go near one unless it's a quattro and the petrol variant might be a bit pricey to run.

IMO, you cannot have anything less than 18" wheels looks wise on these cars.
It might not have this issue at all. Just see if you like the car, its you who will be driving it. Be sure to take it on roads with rough uneven surfaces and onew with odd camber too as the steering can do very funny things.

And the engine is chain timing? Thought that was only on larger engines?

    If it wasn't a C reg I would go for it myself:D

How much damage could he have done in 48,000km? I know 1km on a Cork road is about 10 on any other road but you'd think the prvious owner would stick to the better roads, or else whats the point in getting an A5?

A D reg wouldn't be a whole lot better. Low kms but spent thousands of hours idling in traffic

I wish, beauty alright. But moving on from the high powered cars and looking more for just comfort and good looks.

Where do you get your info from? Do you live in Cork? Roads in Cork are no worse than surrounding areas of Dublin.

Will always be harder to sell a C reg car as opposed to a D reg. Shouldn't be that way, but it is.

Ah, let's not start this again...
