Stolen bikes

Not sure if is the right place for this but anyway.

Most people have had a bike stolen. So you know what it's like. I've had plenty taken but an incident at the weekend has left me desperate to get my bike back and I think it's possible.

A friend and I had dinner in my house and then headed out for a few drinks (live in Dublin city, Harold's Cross area). We were foolish and left our bikes locked up outside the house rather than at the back where it's safer. One of the bikes is a serious one, bought for €800 and barely used. Top notch mountain bike and stupid of us to leave it at risk.

Still, it was well locked up. Anyway, I came home at 3.30am and the bikes were still there. I was going to bring them in but I thought they really were fine (by the way, they were on my property, in the garden, well secured)

Anyway, next morning, get up at 8am, bikes gone. Not a trace. I was sickened and I am so lost without the bike now it has really made me angry when I think of some utterly thoughtless little bastard under my window hacking away and taking two bikes bought and paid for by two hard working people. When I thought about it, it really didn't feel like petty crime at all.

Reported it to the guards, but what will they do realistically? I've made it a mission to hunt them down by trawling websites, dealing with second hand bike shops throughout the city, etc.

Anyway, the reason I'm here is I'm looking for advice and help - what would you do if you were me? I'm not giving up. These bastards shouldn't be able to get away with this so easily.

If you have pictures of bikes post around the area and beyond, maybe even offer a reward,I am not sure but i wouldn't think they be going into second hand cycle shops, most of these bikes would be sold in certain areas for little or nothing.

Do hope it works out for you by the way and you get them back.

Recovery rates for stolen bikes are quite low

You could post details in our stolen bikes thread

There is also a link to the Gardai website which shows bikes in their possession

All you can really do is report it to the Gardai and keep your eye out both on the streets and on sites where second hand bikes are sold

What is it about Dublin 8 and surrounding areas that most bikes reported stolen on here seem to be from that area! Is it just the people that use this site are from this area or is bike theft just rife here? I work in Dolphins barn and get asked many times every day if I buy bikes, obviously its a flat no unless theyre coming from a landlord clearance or something! Anyway post a pic and details and ill keep an eye out.

Speaking (well typing actually) as a former Dublin Northsider, it is clearly a Southsider thing :pac: Never could trust 'em.
