I was not an Au Pair but I hired many throughout Europe (UK,Germany & Poland). I always went through an agency, they appeared to place the Au Pairs very quickly and offered them some protection.

You do not need experience, you will/should get a choice of age group that you would like to look after so babies or toddlers or even older. You should be able to communicate in the local language but there are a lot of English speaking clients in Europe so their preference would be fluent English if possible.

You will have bed and board and get €80-€100 per week, we gave our Au Pairs use of a car as we were away from public transport and we also took our Au Pairs on holiday with us.
