Toyota Cynos Airbag indicator light?

    Hi guys.

    My 1996 Cynos just failed the NCT with just a couple of small issues.

    The guy said there is either no airbag indicator light, or that it was broken or disabled. I can't see it anywhere on my dash.

    Apparently, if it never had an airbag indicator light, all I need is a letter from Toyota clarifying that.

    Would anyone know, does the Toyota Cynos have an airbag indicator light?

    If it has an airbag, it'll have a light.

    You haven't a hope of getting a letter.

    Does it have a passenger airbag?

    It's basically a Starlet coupe isn't it? So could have a mechanical airbag as suggested by this thread. The same thread suggests there is an NCT memo covering these....

    The guy gave me the impression some cars don't have airbag indicator lights. Driver airbag only.

    A Starlet coupe, pretty much. As far as I know they have the same engine and a few other things in common. Cheers for the link, I'll have a look now.

    Turns out i have a mechanical airbag that was an optional extra on the Cynos. My car never had an airbag indicator light.

    I emailed Toyota Ireland about this and a man from Toyota rang me today. He basically told me he cant give me anything in writing because I didnt buy the car from them (96 jap scrap!)

    However he said Toyota have already made it very clear to NCT Ireland that many older Toyotas didnt have airbag indicator lights. He advised me to contact senior management at NCT should I fail the retest on the lack of airbag light.
