    Hey!...

...I'm beginning trying to lose weight for a holiday in 6 weeks time.
At the moment I'm using an exercise machine for at least an hour a day, burning 210 calories at a time, plus 100-150 stomach crunches and 100-150 squats to tone up.

I'm female, 5'7 and a size 12 though not sure what that makes my weight out to be...I want to be a size 10 by my holiday if possible.

My diet is generally good, I eat about 1200 calories a day. Though I do go out drinking a couple of days a week I've switched to bulmers light and Im young enough so I have quite a fast metabolism..

    Am I doing enough?

If you are drinking a few times a week then you aren't eating 1200 cals a day.
Drink contains calories jsut like everythign else, Bulmers light is better than regular bulmers but its still about 160calories a pint
A fast metabolism for being young is pretty much negligible

The calorie output on the machine suggest you aren't working very hard.
    Crunches don't burn many calories

Thats great...but do you think you could be slightly more constructive??
Like suggesting how I can burn more calories daily rather than giving me a simple 'no' answer??

    How much do you weigh?

1200 calories sounds like very little no matter what size you are

His post was fairly constructive in fairness.

    1. You're eating more than you think you are.

    2. You're not training as hard as you think you are.

We're all guilty of both of those things, but you just need to be more honest with yourself. Drinking a couple of times a week isn't going to help you lose weight, you'll need to cut it down to once a week at most, and even then try stick to spirits/diet mixers.

Take a week and write down every single thing you eat, log into www.fitday.com if it helps you keep track of it better.

I was trying to put some perspective on it for you. 4 bottle of cider is 3 hours of exercise. This should show you how important diet is and how alcohol can ruin good work

I've no idea of your physical abilities, but 200 is not much, are you honestly pushing your self hard, or just passing an hours time. Going twice as hard for half the time Will also burn the same cals.

I'm actually doing the same as you, and was guilty of the same mistakes, but im solidly losing three pounds a week now by doing the following.

i calculated the caloires im burning at rest, ie literally doing nothing by this formula (dont let it scare you its easy)

    (9.56 x w) + (1.85 x h) - (4.68 x a) + 655

w: weight in KG h: height in cm and a: age

then i kept my calorie intake under this limit.

most importantly i still eat three times a day and allow for a snack such as a smoothy.

now another secret, not to pleasant the reasoning but it works a charm.
read your nutrition values on your food...make sure your eating your 24 grams of fiber a day. you can guess what this does for you.

now the working out factor. i realised that simply getting up to the 250 calories wasnt doing much so do this instead...warm up for 2 minutes, then jog lightly for 2 mins, into a sprint for 30 seconds, 2 mins jogging, 30 second sprint, etc for 20-30 minutes allowing for a 4/5 minute cool down. This is know as H.I.T.T training or shock training. It basically will heighten the calories burned at rest for the rest of the day and doing it 3 or 4 times a week is plenty.

im drinking less that once a week now and seeing results so im a happy man. hope this advice is someway useful.

(I recommend the website Fatsecret.com for tracking calories..you can get an android app too)
