Licence Upgrade

What's the story with upgrading your licence? At present, I'm racing with a Club Competition Licence but am being "encouraged" by club mates to upgrade to A3. I logged onto the Cycling Ireland Website & I was going to be charged the full price of €120.00!
Considering I've already paid for a club licence & we're half way through the year you would think there would be a bit of a discount.....

    Anyone else experience this?

Why go direct to A3 ??
Go for an A4 ride a few races if they are your level great if too easy them its free to go from A4-A3 and you can do it yourself. Much more difficult to down grade yourself from A3 to A4 if you're out of your depth...

    2) Voluntary Re-grading. Voluntary re-grading i.e where the rider requests to be upgraded or downgraded, will now only take place during the months of November and June.

(The Road Commission were of the opinion that the rule was being abused with some riders upgrading from A4 to A3 to ride a stage race and after this applying for down grading back to A4. The Board has asked the Road Commission to look at the possibility of introducing a Voluntary Re-grading request form.)

this may not effect riders going from Club licence to Full comp. You will only have to pay the balance. Ring the office as pp and RF said.

I've been racing with a Club Licence for the last few years. There isn't that many open races in Connacht where I'm based, just handicapped leagues (Mayo League, Connacht League, etc.) hence me just having a Club Licence. I've done a few A4 open races in Munster & Leinster this year & have had no problem sticking the pace.

I want to do the Ballinrobe 2 Day again this year, so have to upgrade.

The receipts you get from the one day licences are allowed as part payment for an upgrade so if you have the receipts then you're half way there ..

Receipts for one day licences? I never knew, asked or was offered one! Would signing the one day licence sheet count?

The Commisaire should have given you one (a white bit of paper). If they didn't phone CI and ask. They may be able to trace it through the sign on although this depends hugely on how organised the race was.

I've never got or even seen them either.

Same happened with my licence upgrade last year to club comp, had to pay the full amount even though it was July when I upgraded.

I dont know if thats our policy....I will check but you could certainly try. The office staff would have to check the sign on sheets for the races etc. You should ask the person issuing you the 1 day lic to give you a receipt.

Not to be slagging off Cycling Ireland, but somehow I don't think this will happen.

Well you just never know!!! if there is not hundreds of people looking for staff to go back thru sign on sheets then I would say yes there is a possibility it will happen. Its the CEO's call.

    We are not that bad...really!!!

I know! I wasn't having a go! I just can't see somebody checking the Day Licence's for the Markievicz Cup or any other races.

    I know you werent!

1 day licences cant be used for a discount against a full licence. Receipts arent given out anymore its just a sheet you sign. If you have a licence and upgrade that then I am sure its just the balance you pay.

Sorry didn't realise the rules had changes. When did that happen?

Thanks for clarifying, I guess it's time to upgrade & start hanging on for dear life in A3 races. Let the sufferfest begin!

I am not exactly sure but I guess it was the start pof this year. the whole overhead of 1 day licences was becoming a headache for comms and us.

The 1Day Licence issuing headache was transferred away from CI and the Commissaires and directly onto the shoulders of race organisers at the commencement of the 2010 racing season.
A special 1Day 'sign on sheet' must be obtained from CI Headquarters a number of days before the relevant event.
Names/addresses etc of 1Day licence applicants are collected on this sheet and must be returned to CI within 7 days from the date of race. A cheque amounting to the total of 1Day licence payments must accompany this sheet.
A sanction is threatened against the organising club if they fail to comply with this.
The names/addresses are collected so that race points can be allocated in case any 1 Day rider later applies for a Full Competition Licence. It would not be too difficult to also allocate their 1Day licence payments against the total cost of a Full Licence.

Upgrading from a Club Competition to a Full Competition Licence means only paying the difference between the cost of the licences.
Unfortunately the CI online system does not recognize this and charges the full amount for an upgrade.
One needs to contact the CI office directly to obtain the discount. This is a relatively quick process at this time of year.

yes it was! The comms have enough to be doing at the start of a race esp at the beginning of the year when the used to be a peak of 1 day applicants.
