i have 215 45 z R17 tyres on my car, but the front tyres are worn.

i am able to get 225 45 R17 tyres alot cheaper than the 215 size , will it make any difference fitting these size tyres ?

Difference is tiny, you won't notice it.

depends on clearance in wheelarch. also will throw the speedo off and make the front slightly higher.
    other than that no problem...

9mm increase in overall diameter - as above tiny. Wheel scrub would be the only concern, can't say if you'll encounter that or not.

How will a wider tyre affect the speedo?

the 45 bit means the sidewall is 45% of the 225. this is bigger than the 215. so increases the rolling circumference.
means you cover more ground per revolution of wheel.
so you will be going faster.

Sound, I was always paying more attention to the outside diameter never took that into account.

Check that the Vehicle Manufacturer approves, safety, handling, warranty (if applicable)

its for a hodna dc5 , failed nct on front tires, i thought they were ok but important thing to have right

i would normally ask my friend this, but i do not want to annoy him as he usually puts the tires on for me from his garage. i am just able to pick up 225's very cheap (good makes) , but not 215's

Would it be wise to have wider tyres on the front over the rear?

That depends if your car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive, it won't make much of a difference if your just doing normal driving on public roads. All it does is gives you more grip and more drag some people do this just for looks putting wider tyres on the rear. You will notice it on high performance cars, don't do it if you drive a micra please

Might well fail the NCT with tyres not the same size up front, Honda certainly didn't recommned that for a DC5, something to consider before parting with cash ;)

You might get away with sticking different sized tyres on an old fiesta or something but not a precise handling performance car. A dc5 type R's suspension and handling is designed around using 215/45/17 tyres so changing to 225/45, especially only on 1 axle will effect the handling, and surely that is the point of owning a DC5.
