How do I add my name to image EXIF automatically in-camera?

    Hey guys,

I use photomechanic to caption shots the odd time, so I know how that works.

What I would like to know is, how do I stick my name down as the "author" (or whatever) of every image I take automatically as soon as they're taking in-camera?

I'm sure it's not too difficult, but I'm not sure what I should even Google search to try and find the answer.

Cheers to anyone able to help (or anyone who even knows what I'm talking about!) :)

    you are talking exif right?

i think its a feature of the camera and not all cameras will provide for it.

what are you shooting with? usually the utility software that comes with your camera will do it if it is supported by your camera.

I had been meaning to ask for a while, but I stuck my CF card into someone elses 7D earlier today and fired off a random shot or two. The person's name was in the EXIF when I got home and checked the properties.

Seeing this reminded me that I always meant to ask. I bodies I use are Canon 20D, 7D and 1D Mark II. I have an Olympus E-420 that's been abandoned, but I'd still use it if i had any issues with the canon gear. I'd like to try and get my name on the image properties as they're being written to the card.

I never actually even thought of that Canon utility software they give you with the camera bodies. I'd assume you're right and I can do it through that, but I was hoping there'd be a simpler, quicker way (like being able to make the change on a CF card or such, so every shot on the card gets it, but i don't think CF cards have such capabilities, what with them just being memory storage and all).

It's in the EOS Utility software. Connect your camera to your PC via the USB cable. One of the options with the software is to put your name in as the Author/Photographer. It then lives in the camera rather than your cards.

I totally FAILed to find it on the various EOS applications. :o
Any pointers to it's location would be welcome.

I looked at the 7D earlier on, and in the menus theres a section to add an authors name to the image (note, i mean just the 7D on it's own, it wasn't connected to the PC or anything).

So that'll work for me. Only problem I'm having now is figuring out how to do it. There's a keypad on the screen, where you can pick letters/numbers to spell your name, but despite pressing every button on the camera, i can't figure out how to highlight the letters (so i can pick them to spell my name).

On my Nikon cameras I navigate the letters and numbers with the multiselector button to highlight which letter I require and then ok it. When I open that particular menu one letter is already highlighted.

Ah I figured it out in the end. It looked like one of the letters was already highlighted, so i wa twisting the dials and holding the M-Fn button and such to see if that helped at all.

I just needed to press one of the buttons to the left of the LCD, though, to enter the Keypad.

That's me happy as larry, then :)

    Cheers everyone.
