An Post Rás stage winner David McCann has appealed for assistance in trying to recover a spare bike lost near Skerries on Sunday. The Giant Kenda rider soloed to victory on the final stage of the race but, shortly before he put in his winning move, the bike fell from the roof rack on the team car. The loss was only noticed later.

The bike was spotted by others between Garristown and Springhill, but was gone when his team manager returned later to collect it.

The bike features a blue and black Giant TCR carbon frame, together with a SRAM Red groupset, a Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheel and a distinctive RIDEA TT chainset. The latter is possibly the only one of its kind in Europe, making the bike particularly identifiable.

Multiple Irish champion McCann is understandably keen to get the bike back. Anyone with information can reach him at mccanndavid@yahoo.com.

Is anyone else curious about the Gaybo link?

That's a welcome outcome to a very unfortunate accident.

Could have made for some interesting reports though if it were the more widely known Gaybo that found it:

"Well frankly I was appalled to discover this... this... contraption lying at the side of the road. We in the RSA are very open minded but we are already well familiar with the wanton destruction and congestion of our beautiful roads by these cyclists and feel they've sunk to a new low when they discard their used bikes in hedges. It wasn't even a proper bicycle, not a bell or a wicker basket in sight and the absence of spokey dokeys was disgraceful. I immediately had to go home and hug my car and, listeners, I suggest you all do the same".
