I have a couple of days off next week and am looking to play an open stableford somewhere in Leinster on Thursday 9th. Checking the GUI website Dunmurray Springs and Esker Hills are the ones that stand out.

Which one would you choose or is there any other opens not on the GUi site that anyone knows about.

    Cheers

    Check out the cost first.

I know you said open stableford but there's a scratch cup in Seapoint next Monday (6th). Few places still left. €25.

Alternatively, there's a Singles Stableford at Headfort New every Tuesday. Entry is €25.

Woodlands in kildare have open comp stableford for €10 every Thurs. Super deal. Dunmurray is a fine course. Very tough

You wont go wrong with either. Esker is a bit hilly but a fine track. If weather is poor then I'ld chose Dunmurray Springs.

have to argue with you guys , Esker is the more difficult to score on, but even in the worst weather, most holes are sheltered from the elements, ( bar the last few) and still feels dry underfoot in our tropical rainstorms. cant disagree about the hilly bit tho..

Think Gowran Park has open day on a Thursday also. 20e is the cost I think. And Kilkenny Open weeks is on this week until next Monday but only 4 person team event that day

another vote for Esker Hills here too, hard course and a tough hike but its worth it. Moate has an open day on a thursday as well.

It depends what kind of course you want to play.

There is more immediate intrigue to Esker Hills - you'll be up, down and all over the place between rolling eskers that make the course a great thrill. At this time of year it should be looking great too, with gorse in its full glory. A few photos here

Dunmurry Springs is more open and on a hillside for much of the time. Nothing too severe, and you get the added benefit of views all around (the 7th tee box shows off 7 counties). I remember the greens being perfect. The only caveat is that the difference between the white and black tees is 700 yards. Ask which tees they're using. A few photos here

    I don't have a preference - 2 great courses that are under-appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I am leaning towards Esker Hills this time but from Kevin's photos will defo try out Dunmurray sometime.

forgot to ask you - what H/C do you play off? Esker is tough enough for a high handicapper. I'm off 23 but still enjoy it though.

Just to update, have decided to go for something totally different. There is an open singles in Balbriggin on Thursday and on Friday an open singles in Carlow.

Neither of these were on the GUI site. Really looking forward to Carlow as heard great things.

By the by was looking at the timesheet for Esker Hills for this Thursday and so far is empty.
