Possibley the nicest Polo of this generation that I've seen, and it actually has a half decent engine (ie. not a 1.2)

That's a lot of road in 8 months for a Polo. Looks decent though.

I like the agressive styling of this one and a good engine to match.

"only motorway miles" because the first time those wheels hit a backroad, you're looking at blown tyres and bent alloys.

The same photos are on an unregistered 1.2 in this ad:

Been in it and yes I liked it.

No leather steering wheel though which is a turn off

I think it couldn't look less skangery. That skangered would have nice shiney, in yourface wheels, everything is subtle about it, hence why I posted it.

Appearance is a very subjective thing, I don't think 'skangery' exists as an absolute.:)

Man, the wheels on that thing are effing ridiculous.

Yes, the standard Polo rides on 14 inch wheels, 70 profile tyres. Those are 17 in alloys in the photos, on maybe 45 profile rubber.

Stick to motorways, or you'll buckle the wheels PDQ.

    Meh - the wife's old Ibiza was rollin' on 225/40/17's. With a 1.2 3 cylinder.....:pac:

I've never gone lower than 50 profile on anything, and I've blown a tyre on the 50s and bent an alloy on 55s, both on unavoidable potholes.

I can't imagine going from 70 profile to 45 without any suspension changes does much for ride comfort, either.

I called in today to have another look at that Polo in the original post.

    IT'S SOLD

That was the best of the news I got. I then inquired about the other one they have which turned out to be a 1.2 boggo spec Polo with the R-design kit glued on and it was rolling on small alloys.

I asked if the 1.6TDI was available to test drive and was told that as of MY2011 it was special order because it was virtually the same price as the Baseline TDI Golf.

I asked if VW had any small hatch with the 1.2TSI (Big heavy Golf only) or high powered diesel as I was looking for something fun and affordable to run............NO..........unless I wanted to part with large amounts of cash.

Does anyone know if the 1.6TDI or 1.2TSI or 1.4TSI is available in the IBiza or Fabia?

I've done 100k km on 225/45/17's and so far over 20k km on 225/40/18's and have had no problems whatsoever and regularly drive on awful roads. A bit of cop on when driving bad roads and you'll be fine.

I dunno. I'm on 225/50 R17 now, and I find poor roads slow me down more than they did on my 215/60 R16 winter tyres. Personally, i'm a big fan of decent sidewalls and long-travel suspension for going hard on bumpy back-roads.

In both cases where I took damage, it was a passenger-side pot-hole and an oncoming car. No chance of dodging the hole, no time to brake to a halt.

I don't see how "cop-on" helps, unless you can drive everywhere at 30 kph.

I'm on 205/45/18 and 225/45/18 both with stretch and I'd have no fears on country roads.

And John i wouldn't let the 1.2 "small engine" put you off, IIRC they're a turbo and over 100bhp!

Accidents like that can happen of course, but you don't need to drive everywhere at 30kph to be able to stop in time for everything. I just read the road ahead, if it's particularly bad I will slow a bit or avoid them if possible. Tbh I rarely hit one doing this and don't slow traffic up.

Not available in the Polo and I thought it would be dog slow or similar to the 1.4 in the Golf.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm only dreaming about what to get for the next car. The Passat, while very good is boring in equal measures
