Come Dine With Me Ireland (Week 1 - Cork)

TV3 IS to screen an Irish version of the hugely popular Come Dine With Me series.

The programme, where participants host and cook for each other to win a cash prize of £1,000, is one of Channel 4’s most successful formats.

TV3 will broadcast 30 episodes of the series around the country and guests will be able to apply to participate through the station’s website. The series will be a key part of the station’s autumn schedule announced yesterday.

It will be made for TV3 by ITV Studios and will feature the acerbic voice-over commentary of Dave Lamb, the British actor and narrator whose tart comments are one of the reasons why it has become so successful.

TV3’s director of programming Ben Frow said Come Dine With Me was a priority for the station for several years, but the issue was complicated by the fact that the station’s former part-owners, ITV, were rivals of Channel 4 which own the rights.

“We are delighted to have it. It is the most successful food format in the world along with Masterchef , it is the show,” he said.

The Apprentice also returns. The programme had a vintage year last year with the shenanigans involving many of the participants boosting the programme’s ratings.

The Apprentice boss Bill Cullen promised “fireworks” from the new series. “It is very entertaining, very tense. It will be a stronger boardroom this year, the tasks are more difficult and there are some very interesting characters.”

The Apprentice, You’re Fired will be presented by Anton Savage who replaces Brendan O’Connor.

Mr Frow said TV3 was able to make 150 hours of home-grown programme from a budget of just €20.5 million which included €1.5 million from the Sound and Vision Fund.

The new programmes will include a slew of serious documentaries.

One will be about the role of Irish soldiers who fought in the second World War and another on the 1911 census focusing on one tenement building in Dublin which housed 19 families.

    For those on boards mobile.

If you "like" Come Dine With Me on facebook it gives regular updates on shows. Sometimes it says that they are looking for hosts in certain parts of England, it also had updates when CDWM Australia was on so.

It may have updates when CDWM Ireland is on

Spotted an ad for 'Come Dine With Me' on TV3 starting on Monday at 6.30pm..

.. but the TV was on mute, so had no clue whether it was the Irish or English version.

It certainly looked different.. but then again, I don't think TV3 has ever shown 'Come Dine With Me' so they might just be airing some of the UK series first!

DigiGuide quotes it as being a new series though.. might be worth keeping an eye on!
    Come Dine with Me
New series. Contestants try to outdo each other by throwing the perfect dinner party, which is then judged on its merits by their rivals

TV3 must have his details for some reason..maybe he applied for something in the past?

I LOVE CDWM!! Can't wait for Irish version.... I was watching some of that Rachel Allen show where she shows how to entertain.. the one with the Irish crowd was cringe, this should be worse, can't wait!!

****ting snake anyone?, i really despise this program i hate having it on while on im having dinner with the family, the incivility of having your tv on while at dinner is one thing :/ but dedicating snakes and others picking hairs out of their foods makes me nauseous, I don't know anyone who likes watching other people eat while your eating.

Boring. I don't want to watch people cooking a decent meal. That's what cooking shows are for. I want to see what would happen if someone served toasted sandwiches.

There was a celebrity Come Dine With Me where one of the contestants served Old El Paso fajitas. That was great.

There can't be, half the fun of the show is looking at the weird slop some people proudly serve up.

My favourite was one woman who described making a fruit coulis. She described how some people would get fresh berries, sweeten them, boil and reduce them and then sieve it. But said she had a much quicker way that was just as nice, then she proceeded to mix a few spoonfuls of cheap jam with warm water out of the tap.:pac:

She served it with ice-cream and squirty cream, with a few crushed Malteasers on top. She also made a "summer punch" which was a bottle of white wine, half a bottle of vodka, a bottle of blue WKD served in a big bowl with some tinned fruit cocktail. The others nearly choked on it.

I don't know anyone who likes watching other people eat while your eating.

I love watching cooking shows and the likes while I eat or just before I'm about to eat. After I'm finished eating though I lose interest in the show pretty quickly. Its a lot like masturbating to porn really, living vicariously through what your seeing on the screen :pac:

Thread needs more "snake pooing on table"..

I think they are shooting themselves in the foot by showing the English version first. Mainly because its been repeated so many times on More4 and Channel4 already. It is a good format but like the Apprentice I feel its on far too much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭magentas

well they're still searching for contestants so god knows when it'll actually be screened!
