Heating problem in a Merc C-180 (1996)

    Hi All

Was wondering if anyone can help. I have a 1996 Mercedes C-180 Petrol and recently the heating has started to come on even though I have it turned off. I've checked everything I know that might be affecting it, i.e. coolant levels, fuses etc but they are all OK.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to go about fixing it without resorting to a mechanic? Obviously if it needs a mechanic's attention then I will call one but my guess is that it is something straight forward enough that a mechanic might overprice me on.

Also does anyone know what is needed to run diagnostics on your engine? Software, Hardware, cables etc?? I know you need a laptop and I have that but what else?

    Any help is much appreciated

    Cheers...

Faulty heater control valve. Im not sure the set-up on Merc's myself but that's what I'd be looking at.

Can't find the writeup I had but here's something similar. Common problem and easy to fix. (assuming its a 202)
