I think it's just how eircom set up their system. You must be on an eircom network to use smtp email access. But receiving email on outlook should be possible. Can you log in to eircom email fine on the browser?

Yea just tried it... no problem...

Incoming is through Eircom's mail server but outgoing is through UPC server coz Im with them now ...

Had no trouble before but all day today it wont work

Ok well upc outgoing should work. Silly question maybe but are you trying now over the same wifi connection as when it did work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Ya-Boy-Ya

Its been working for years... nothing touched in settings and today was the start of it not working.... very confusing

Try removing the account from outlook and adding it back again

    just to double check. It's
    smtp.upcmail.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Ya-Boy-Ya

    Mail Server is POP
    Incoming mail server is Webmail.Eircom.Net
    Outgoing is Smtp.UpcMail.ie

Just removed it and added.... it still wont connect to server... weird :(

can connect on web tho :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,794 ✭✭✭cookie1977

you've capitals in there. Not sure if it'll make a difference but use small letters:
    smtp.upcmail.ie
    mail2.eircom.net

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,794 ✭✭✭cookie1977

    Eircom free: mail2.eircom.net
    Eircom subscription: mail1.eircom.net

Sorry the above are smtp eircom settings. As I said make sure you're using lower case letters for webmail and upc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Ya-Boy-Ya

    Ok putting those in now

ah. Maybe it's a more wide spread issue. I cant test this unfortunately as I dont have an eircom email account. Can any other boardsies test this out?

Something similar has happened with Outlook express.

It will not collect the emails form our eircom.net email address here in work. It was working no problem for at least 6 years and no one chnaged any settings as far as I know.

    The ISP is packet exchange.

When you try to get the emails a sign appears saying ''the POP3 server has not repsonded in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait another 60 secs?''

Can anyone shed any light on this please

What are your pop and smtp settings? Have you tried using windows live mail desktop?

I'm at home now, I'll get them when in work tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,794 ✭✭✭cookie1977

If it's a problem in work then it could be because of work blocking access to pop email

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭Slidey

It is their computer, their email address and it was working up to about a month or so ago.

The boss knows about the issue, he more than likely would have said if it was something they had possibly done.

Right, I deleted the account from outlook and started again. I thought it might auto detect the settings but it doesn't. Tried to do that wit thunderbird but it failed with auto detect.

Can someone give me the addresses needed for incoming and out going mail?

    Incoming (POP3) mail1.eircom.net

    Outgoing (SMTP) smtp.upcmail.ie

    Hi Ya-Boy-Ya

this is a link to eircom email settings and may offer some guidance. Not aware of any wider issue with receiving / sending mails from Outlook.
