Jaysus. Dangerous stuff altogether. Would have reacted the same way myself.

I was watching that game and couldn't believe what he'd done. He could easily have snapped his neck.

Lucky he didn't break his neck, nice box

    thats awful stuff.

sometimes when you see these type of incidents on tape when they're in slow motion and repeated they look alot worse than they are. that isnt the case here.

you can see how close he is to breaking his neck by just how far the highlanders head turns. plus the lions guy is pulling his head away from his shoulders at the same time.

if a fella on my team did that to a guy id have very strong words with him. i hope he is banned for a long time.

  • its on rugbydump at the moment, comments asking how long each respective ban might be.

Its hilarious how some people are saying "handbags" while others are rightfully talking about upwards of 12 weeks suspension for the "rucking" offense.

I remember that alright. Was extremely dangerous. We were close to losing a rugby player there.

    Should be a lengthy ban.

Its disgraceful and i notice that its creeping into the maul area as well where palyers are grapping their opponent by the neck and pulling them.

in the video clip id say that its only the fact that he is a professional player that has saved him, if that happened at j1 or j2 you would be looking at a broken neck.

needs to be stamped out. lengthy ban in order.

Absolute disgrace. If his legs were trapped, his neck was gone.

was watching this game, dreadful 'rucking', terrible finish to the game, Outhalf missed penalty to touch, Lions ran it back and scored, shades of Old belvo Clontarf all over again!

That's one thing I love about Rugby, something like that is referred to as "bad technique".

Piutau also got cited but was let off because he acted in "exceptional circumstances"

Thinks its the right call imo, would be pretty harsh handing out a ban all things considered.

The ban and the "non-ban" are absolutely spot on. That was extremely dangerous, and yer man deserved the box.

Fantastic retribution btw. Right on the money.

How do you mean? He got up sure.

I don't think it was an intentional tackle but extremely dangerous so it deserves a lenghty ban. At least a month. That could have been a career ender or worse.

The punch also deserves a ban. If every bad tackle gave somebody license to punch then no game would end with 15 aside.

Correct piutau should be banned just like SOB should have been. We can't have players self policing

the below is what the citing commissioner said

"Piutau's reaction was that of someone who had been seriously endangered and to impose a sanction in these circumstances would not reflect the effect on Piutau of the incident and a reaction that was the product of shock rather than retaliatory intent."

i agree with it. the winger had his head twisted and pulled. i still dont know how he didnt break his neck. id view what happened to him as so dangerous that i think he is lucky to be alive!

it was completely different to what happened to sob and poc. it would be very unfair to ban him.

    it wasnt a tackle either.

As you observe yourself, this is not a run of the mill 'bad tackle' - it's one of the most willfully dangerous incidents I've ever seen on a rugby pitch. Diciplinary boards expect players to show a fair amount of restraint when infringed against, but expecting anybody not to react to an assault of this level is asking too much imo. A little victory for common sense.
