I posted a new thread wondering if any one had seen anyhtin about some new cqb site called vacant opening, in the hope that maybe somebody had heard some information i had not heard. or maybe they played here.
i just wanted to know what it was like and if there was any information i didn't already know.( from the link )

Then i get told its airsoft reloaded and my thread is locked???
is there actually any reason to close it?

i taught by asking is anyone had heard anything about the site that it was self explanotary and i didnt need to also include in my post that I was looking for more information.

Is there any particular way I should go about re asking for information on the place.

I felt that with it being biggest indoor site in the world being opened in Ireland is obviously in the interest of the Irish airsoft community that i would spread the word and see if anyone had any information on it.

Perhaps it was closed are per Andy_G's explanation, i.e. that the site/company in question had not renewed their commercial subscription.

Off the top of my head I would say the mods may have noticed you were/are a regular poster on the Office Block thread and may have intrepreted your query as an attempt to get free advertising for Airsoft Reloaded's new CQB site, this would probably not have been an issue except for the fact that they have not paid their subscription.

I'm looking forward to the new site as much as anyone but there are rules that need to be adhered to.

There's also a possibility that threads about the new site have been requested to be closed, to prevent the leaking of information and secrets etc

I think that's going too far even for the most avid conspiracy theorist. If there is information freely available in the public domain I don't see why/how the mods would stop us discussing it, that's what boards is for.

Sorry, I mean requested by Airsoft reloaded to be closed. Just a guess:o

Even if AR had requested the thread be closed the mods would not have done so as it would go against the entire ethos of boards as a discussion forum.

We're slowly but surely getting way off-topic here, might be best if this thread was also closed as it's going nowhere fast.

    Biggest in the world eh?

So its larger than the 60,000sq ft site in Massechucetts?
or the 250,000sq ft 'Mall' By First and Only in the UK?
    First and Only's 'The Outpost (23,000sq M)

Bluntly put, your thread was locked because it was advertising for a site that has not paid subscription to advertise here in the retailer and site forum. (the only place advertising is allowed)

Well then the Airsoft News thread should be closed as well as it is advertising for all sorts of companies that haven't paid.

If you stop people from posting about new sites how are we ever going to find out. I don't sit down and google 'new site Ireland' everyday.

I've seen a few threads started asking about new sites or even existing sites, why lock this one?

Wouldn't they have to put a roof on Ireland for us to have the biggest indoor site in the world :p:pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,763 ✭✭✭Airsoft Reloded

We had nothing to do with any thread as we are no longer operating on boards (But thanks Dar, I sent you message on fb with details dude), otherwise we would have sorted our thread. Saying that I've seen a lot of threads exactly like that (always about the same sites) allowed to be left open but never mind .

Firekitten its 2,400,000 sq ft (and thats not counting the outdoor area) so yeah a little bigger than the ones you mentioned ;). Also we already have one bigger than the one you mentioned in Massechucetts over here, just so you know :)

It should also be noted that its not us opening this site alone, we are only a small part of the ownership. There are other people who have been involved in business and playing airsoft for a long time involved. I'll leave it to them to announce it (though with the reaction people get on boards I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do it here)

Mods can we by chance get this locked/deleted whatever you feel is appropriate for us non in site owners ;)

Yes I was a active poster on there thread but stopped playing airsoft as much due to lack of money and time. So there fore haven't spoke to any of the airsoft reloaded crew ( other wise i would have got more information than most on boards might have got ).

as for advertising, i know it might have been advertisement for them in a way but the site isnt even opened yet and i simply wondered if anyone had information on it.

this is taken from the facebook page "Not only Ireland's biggest, not only Europe's biggest but the world's biggest indoor airsoft site opens on our shores. Vacant is a mixture of office space, warehousing, long corridor and tight room gaming with a couple of acres outside with a concrete yard housing several ingame concrete buildings to breech and clear including multiple vehicles to run around and use as cover. Vacant is Ireland's newest and best airsoft site, there is nothing like it anywhere."
and apparently its and i quote " 2,400,000 sq ft dude and then there is an acre or two of outdoor area aswell." ( taking from facebook page. )

So ye it will be bigger than the mall ( and before you all go mad yes i have played there )

this is all the information i can find apart from what is on the vacant group page.

I appear to be wrong... the cqb place I found in ireland that seemed largest, was 14,000 sq m... Sounds like an interesting site if its that big...

Which was my point of trying to find out more information on this place.

And i started this thread to find out why my original thread was closed.
And Why when it was/is such a big thing considering its such a big place and major news for most if not all airsofters like me.

Its a big deal, because this forum has an anti advertisement policy.

Retailers and sites pay subscription fees to advertise in thier own sub forum.

When topics basically advertise other sites (you linked the site), and they havent subscribed, its a bit unfair to those that do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,763 ✭✭✭Airsoft Reloded

I'm sure Dar is only asking because other sites are allowed but firekitten is right and so again mods can we get a lock here please?

I'm curious; that is - if my maths and google-fu are correct - roughly 55 acres. That is one rather large building ..... I'm left wondering if you have notified NASA that you are trying to appropriate their iconic VAB

... or to put it another way; dwarfs Dundrum town centre which is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe at 80,000 sq.metres (or just north of 860,000 square foot converted) - sans car parking space.

Cynical me is cynical and wondering if you've misread a couple of zeroes. The rent on such a site would be staggering; At €1 per square foot you're paying €2.4 million, and even if you had a sweetheart deal of €1 per 100ft sq, you're still paying €24,000 in rent. That's before insurance or running costs. Even for a UK site, with a player base as big as it has, you'd think long and hard about whether or not it'd be viable. Hell, even the Mall doesn't run every single week unless there are guaranteed bookings coming in. The costs for such a site would be crippling.

However, it's been established that this wasn't advertising, it was someone trying to find out about a new site. I'm glad the thread hasn't been locked, because I'd be surprised even for a forum as duplicitous as boards if discussion of any business that hasn't paid money was banned. Shouldn't an airsoft forum be where people find out about new sites?

But then again, it's boards, the ****ing remedial prominent-forehead ice cream party of the internet, so who knows what arbitrary bollocks will be applied.

You make a lot of assumptions there.

If you are talking commercial rates for a fully serviced site, then no it wouldn't work.

But it does. Think huge abandoned multinational facility on edge of large urban town. 15 mins (with me driving) from m50.

You say 'abandoned', but there has to be rent payable. Even in a ****hole like Naas there are plenty of people willing to sublet property.

Indeed I do since there's not much else to go on other than common sense regarding any sort of commercial property.

Seriously Lemming man, why do you always have to be the killjoy dude?

Let us worry about the overheads, we wouldn't be opening it if it wasen't worth it. When we started with the warehouse the rent was €72,000 a year before rates, insurance and the likes. People over here seriously underestimate the opportunities over here for sites. Sure we're paying well more than €24,000 rent right now (over double that infact).

As for your measurements I guess that sounds about right yeah :D

You won't believe the place until you see it

Now would it be breaching that policy if heard of a new site opening up in Ireland and posted in the airsoft news thread with a link to said site. I mean this goes on all the time with AEGs with links to online retailers that don't pay fees here on boards. And would a new site/retailer opening in Ireland not qualify as news???

I'm not involved in boards.ie policy, or the application of that policy.

Right or wrong, the mods make that call, and its a job filled with hard calls.

I personally cannot say where the line is drawn. As a user, what right do I have?

My own opinion is my own, and will remain my own.

The statement you quoted, is with reference to existing policy. My comment was directly related to that, and not opinion based. As it turns out, it probably wasn't advertisement... the question wasn't the clearest to be honest. As that apears to be the case, well, then its not advertisement, and as such, does that apply?

    Who knows?

The more important question is however...

    Daddy, or chips?

Right i have been reading the comments left here.
I started the thread to find out information and let other airsofters like myself, know that there was such a site opening up.

I did not do it for advertising which alt of you agreed once i explained myself, ( yes i should have made myself clearer in the original topic i opened ) but either way the topic was locked with out a question even asked and i was not pm'd as to why it was closed, or giving the choice to edit my post.

as for the strictness of the mods ( which i find extremely stupid, and just shows that their power hungry and love the fact that they can lock threads ) i think is a joke. they lock my thread for no actual reason and then let this topic run even tho it was derailed about 2 pages ago.

i personally think this forum is a joke when it comes to actual airsoft these days and i have stopped posting on it ( apart from the odd advert and this recent news ).

When posting i kept to general forum rules and didnt say stuff like, here check this site out its better than such and such site, i simply asked if anybody knew anything about the place.
I am a Forum mod and Admin over on < pm me for link, its an urbanexploration forum, google it if you like > and the community has grown by 300 in the last month and a half and we have never had a bad complaint or a thread locked for no reason.
So the fact that it goes on so regularly here (boards) and everybody knows and dislikes boards for that reason means that alot of users like myself have stopped posting here.

I think the Admin should rethink the Mod selection if they wish for this forum to grow in a ever growing sport.

    Steady on.

The topic was locked for a valid reason. However, without speaking for the mods, it apears it was a mistake. No need to all Shylock on thier asses.

He is right though, pretty much everyone agrees and this kind of thread happens more and more lately. Each time it is left unresolved and gets worse.

You know this yourself, andyg is the one of the worste ones and again we always sit there saying I'm not mentioning anybody but we should cause he is a crap mod and the forum is getting destroyed purely by him almost.

The point is, locked immediately and now after going on a pretty offbeat and ranting thread, noone on the mod side has offered anything.

Watershed time. Boards is the Fifa of airsoft.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 161 ✭✭!!DAR!!

It might have been locked for a valid reason, but i wasn't told why, and I wasn't givin a chance to change my post and just leave the link out etc. it was locked and link removed before i was giving a chance to explain myself.

As for the mods, im not the only one who thinks there way of running this forum is a joke.
its been said time and time again, they choose what the moderate and let stuff which should be forbidden eg. thread derailment, go on like it doesn't matter, then when somebody asks a simple question " any body seen this " its locked and told we were advertising.
Is boards not supposed ot be a place where we can come and discuss big news such as; the biggest indoor site in the world opening up on our door step, with out worrying about mods locking the topic?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,763 ✭✭✭Airsoft Reloded

I'll bow out because the point is made and Dar's problem won't be addressed anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

tbh its only been 10-12 hours?

We have few enough mods as it is, as those that used to mod, vanished pretty much.

Andy and Steve, and Thermo should be comended for doing a nearly impossible thankless job.

I'm not saying they dont make mistakes, we're all human, mods are no different. They are certainly not beyond reproach, and not above saying sorry when wrong.

    Its funny though.
A few months ago... people demanded a more 'hands off' moderation style, where mods DIDNT force topics back on topic, and allowed deviation.... now you want it back? can we make our minds up on what this pitch fork rally is for?
