Hi guys, I'm delighted to have been accepted to study Law at NUIM, just wondering how have people found this course and/or NUIM i.e. did it live up to your expectations? any feedback appreciated. :)

ya its quite a good course. we have some very good lecturers and one pretty bad one. second semester was a mess cause we had a lecturer who was sick so we had no continuous assessment and no help with course work so it was tough. overall its worth doing. its probably one of those degrees that will actually get you a job.

I'm a second year in the BCL going into work experience next year and I love it so far! Personally I've never had a problem with any of the lecturers so far unlike above so that's personal preference! They're all willing to help and are quite interactive! I've never regretted doing law here!

Although just so you know, the LLB is brand new so you won't be able to get any info specifically on that one!

what exactly do you want to know? :)

the bcl is in conjunction with arts and is for 3 years.
the llb is a single honours law degree and is for 4 years

    Whate he said.

The BCL is Law and Arts which is a three year degree where you study Law in conjunction with an arts subject (2 in 1st year). For example my degree will be Law and History when I graduate. It is a recognised law degree everywhere and will be having it's first graduates come september.

The LLB is a Pure Law degree and is a four year degree in which you only study law. It will be starting in September so no one here would have done it yet. It has also just been recognised

i wouldnt go that far. you can always go on to do an LLB if you feel the need to after your BCL. The LLB is recognised as a postgraduate in some universities, UCC been one. So I imagine in 3 years time this will be the case at NUI Maynooth.

The LLB is a completely different degree to the BCL. And most potgrad LLBs are for those who did not do law for their undergrad.
The LLM is the law masters

    Apologies. Every LLB is different.
That is also completely different from the NUIM LLB (or the NUIG or the Trinity LLBs for that matter)

In all honesty, though, I don't really see why someone would want to do an LLB as a postgrad. Regardless of the fact that it's a post-graduate law qualification, it's still a bachelors - so in all honesty, getting another bachelors rather than a higher qualification - if you were interested in doing a law post-grad, you'd be better off doing an LLM or an MLS, would you not?
Especially if you've already done a BCL, as you'd have a law degree already.

Hi guys, just wondering about the library construction as well? The NUIM website states that its due to be finished in 2012. How are the library facilities coping at the moment and is there much of a disruption caused by the ongoing construction? cheers...

Possibly more suited to the footbridge discussion?
Or is there a library one?

Yeah this isn't really the right thread, I've renamed the Footbridge one to deal with all construction issues.
