Is this a valid way to issue a parking ticket ?

Went to the hurling game in Thurles today. Parked on the Dublin Road, admittedly 2 wheels on the footpath (mea culpa, but I've done this many times before on the same road).

Returned to the car after the game and a scrap of paper under wiper (literally a scrap of paper torn off a larger page) with a hand written note scribbled on it "29-5-11 A Parking Ticket will be issued for parking on footpath in the post" It was signed by a PJ (rest of name indeciperhable, but definitely not preceded by "Garda" or "Sergeant" or anything like that).

Now I realise that I'm in the wrong and would have no problem paying an appropriately administered ticket should it arrive, but this just doesn't seem as if it's a validly issued ticket.

Is this a valid way for a ticket to issue ?

Look up D'unbelieveables on youtube and look at the crimebusters bit, all will become clear.

sounds like it was a pedestrain possible even a wheel chair user who's path you obstructed. They are probably going to report you. Doubt you'll get a ticket

I will get the relevant section in the offices tomorrow but an amendment to possibly the Road Traffic Act some years ago gave powers under the act that a fixed penalty notice (parking fine) can be sent to the owner of the offending vehicle without having first been placed on the vehicle.
It might not be relevant to your case but I'll post the piece tomorrow.

    Thanks for that time lord.

Is it €40 for such an offence ? Are penalty points possible also ?

The fine is issued through the post. The piece of paper is a courtesy so it doesn't come as a surprise. No penalty points for parking offences.
