    Hi there,

Im a female, 31yrs, 5ft2 and 13 stone 3. I lost a stone through slimming world before xmas but dropped out, I havent put any more on but i desperately need to get fit and lose at least 3 stone before next year when I get married. I am very depressed after my first shopping visit for a wedding dress!

I also have insulin dependant diabetes so could do with losing alot of weight and think that the wedding might be the motivation I need to do it.

However there is so much different information out there about the best way to lose weight and get fit I dont know what I should be doing! I will obviously be starting with a healthy eating plan.

Can someone help by letting me know what I should be doing regarding exercise as Im not a sporty person and have never been in a gym in my life. I am worried about being very self conscious. I have tried walking as I live in the country but it never lasts and I always lose interest and start making excuses not to walk.

What would be best - joining a gym, joining some sort of classes such as aerobics/zumba or anything else like that, or would curves work. I cant swim either so thats out, and I have two young children which makes time tight.

I live in kilkenny - is the watershed any good?

Sorry for the long post, im desperate to lose this weight and be healthier.

Exercise bike in front of the TV? Always watch a movie/topgear or something for Saturdays cardio session myself. Puts an hour of cardio in fairly painlessly. I'd imagine it's affordable for most people to get something second hand on donedeal.ie.

Hey siobhan, the stickies on top of the main page would probably be a good place to start. Take a read through those and then maybe post up your current average eating pattern.

In terms of exercise, try a few classes and find one you enjoy. The one you enjoy the most and be consistent with is the right choice.

I'd recommend you start small, and make some permanent changes, rather than looking at this as a 'diet'.

Make sure you do something every day - 30 minutes brisk walking with your favourite music would be a good place to start. Weightloss aside, i think it's a great way to clear your head and enjoy the long evenings!

Take a close look at your diet. Cut out all process foods if you can - no crisps, no biscuits, no deep fried foods. As much fresh fruit and veg as you can manage. A cup of green tea after every meal is supposed to increase your metabolism and will hopefully kill any cravings for something sweet!

Gym classes are great too but its sometimes better to have a program tailored for your level of fitness and your goals. Could you afford a few sessions with a personal trainer? Even every 3 weeks with your own gym plan in between - it's a great way to stay motivated!!

Let us know how you get on!
