Im filling out a rent relief form. Ive lived here for 2 and half years but first question on form is "Tax year for which you are making a claim".

Is that this year or the year i first moved in?

    Hi Johnnysmack,

The year in which you include on the form is the years for which you are entitled to the tax relief. An inidivudal can go back 4 years and claim any tax relief that they have been entitled to in that period for which they have not yet received a relief. What this means in your context is if you have been renting since 2007 you can claim this relief for 2007 going forward. You will receive a fund for ther earlier years and your tax credits will increase for this year so you will see your take home pay slightly increase. If you only started renting this year, just put in 2011. If it was 2009, include 2009...etc.
