Question is, if its a African Pied Crow can i shoot it and where did it come from:confused: There only supposed to reside below
    RANGE:
The Pied Crow occurs in almost the whole sub-Saharan Africa, except some regions of Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia, the most arid regions of Namibia, Botswana and Kalahari basin, and the higher elevations of Lesotho.
It is present on the islands off Tanzania and on Madagascar

can i ask why you want to shoot it, not to come across as anti but if it is that bird its rare in this country so i dont see the need to shoot it.

i doubt it is that bird its more than likely an oddly coloured mag, i see a crow around town some times with one white patch on its wing

This is jet white and black, it's not a magpie as it's alot bigger and I seen it up close and doesn't look like a mag, that's why I though first it was a crossbreed but told it couldn't be? I'm going to have to get a pic, it's doing my head in to find out what it's :D

I don't want to shoot it but the bloody thing is stealing the next door neighbours baby chicks:mad: and I have him annoying the heck out of me. I would rather trap it but the neighbour doesn't want a trap around.

Could it have gotten loose from a private collection?

My hunch is that its a hybrid Carrion/Hooded Crow - increasing numbers of these are turning up in the East of the country due to the expansion of the Carrion Crows range in the UK(into hooded territory!!). The good news is that both are classed as vermin, so can legally be shot on sight:)

PS: I've seen one or two of these in the Blessington area in the last 12 months!!

I reckon what these sightings could be is of a Hooded crow that is a partial albino - some interesting pics of these birds taken around Europe which I viewed via Google this evening:)

Have you told the neighbour that the trap is the best option? I reckon keep pressing the neighbour about the trap and he/she will allow it :)
