Would make a good headline wouldn't it ;)

But seriously should people be allowed to raindance in Ireland in summer. We need the tourists to come here and spend money not to scare them off

If your day out in Maynooth is washed out , remember I warned you

Slightly OT but it drives me mad when people refer to Ireland as a rainy country and say that it always rains.....it's really not that rainy at all

Could they not do a Sundance and help the weather while still getting the record?

The general impression is that it rains quite a lot of the time in Ireland, but two out of three hourly observations will not report any measurable rainfall. The average number of wet days (days 1mm or more of rain) ranges from about 150 days a year along the east and south east coasts, to about 225 days a year in parts of the west.

So in any give hour there is a 1/3 chance of rain or if you look at longer term at least three days a week.

Suppose it works and we get 40 days of rain ?

150-225 days of rain per year.

If that's not raining a lot, I'd hate to see what is, because I'm fcuking sick of it at this stage.

We had around 4 weeks of beautiful sunshine at easter and then a day or 2 of rain (it hadn't rained in ages before that even though it was cold)....anyway as soon as it started raining everyone starts going on about how sick they are of it raining all the time

It really doesn't rain that often at all if you think about it

People acting like we didn't just recover from a bitter drought there a few months back.
Might of been cold but it was fluching dry.

Dublin is in the top ten cities within Europe for annual rainfall, humidity, and days of rain.

I've lived in cities with more days of rain and more precipitation than Dublin, but at least in the tropics (where it rains almost daily) the sun comes out almost every day. I found the cloudiness and lack of a truly hot, sunny summer in Dublin to be kind of depressing.

I'm in the south east and it doesn't rain 150 days out of the year and whatever met eireann are basing that on maybe they should change it to something a bit more realistic.....

I'm telling ya if you lived in a country that rained 150-225 days a year then you would bloody know about it!!

Most people do, that's why everyone is always complaining about the fcuking weather.

It's not just the rain. It's the constant damp and lack of sunshine.

Madness, keep a rain diary yourself and you'll see that it doesn't and on top of your rain diary keep a note about peoples unfounded comments about how often it rains........

A few years ago it rained a lot more but the last 2/3 years it doesn't.....

Met Eireann said it ... and they actually keep records on a scientific basis.

Ok, I don't think they mean 225 days when it rains all day, rather 225 days when it rains at some stage.

But that's typical Ireland, especially in the west ... if it's not raining, it's just stopped raining or it's about to rain!

Yeah, we did have a nice April, I agree, probably better than it should have been for the time of year. But now it's May and we've had unseasonably wet, windy and cold weather, and no sign of it to let up.

Pity anyone actually trying to grow anything in these backwards seasons!

And on a personal level, I'd much prefer a climate where it rained hard when it did rain, and then fecked off completely for a few days.

+1. When I lived in Miami, between June and August, it pretty much rained - hard - everyday between 3 and 4pm. The rest of the day it was sunny. It was humid as hell, but at least the sunshine got you out of bed in the morning.

Yeah, been there, seen that, with quite amazing regularity. In Ireland it's a bit different not much happens before or after the daily hour of sunshine, which is why bed would probably be a good place to be?:)
