Do you look at people around your age and think you look younger?

I was being asked for ID right up till I was 25 .... Then we had 3 kids in the last 5 years... I'm 30 now and NOBODY questions my right or need to buy alcohol anymore.

28, look about 19 or 20. Which is deadly, cos it means I can ride 18 year olds! All those years of being asked for ID are finally paying off.

Turned 33 recently and I get told I look mid 20s without make-up, late 20s with it. I don't have wrinkles yet - combination of genes and not going out in the sun much/always wearing SPF if I do. Trade-off is a lot of white hairs though, but at least I can dye those.

31, Been told I look anything from 23-30. So I think it just depends on who's looking at me!

The question is, do you act your age? I'll be 40 in a few months and I should be coming down with all the symptoms of a fortysomething, lack of energy, expanding waist, greying hair... but I'm not. I've only got a receding hairline and a few wrinkles.

    Oh, and some grey hairs...

I'm 24 and I've been mistaken for around 20 a lot in the last year. Funnily at 20 people often assumed I was 27/28....

Look far younger than my age. Still get asked for i.d. in alot of places, and look around 23-24 even with the beard...and from 19-21 without it, and I'm 30 :p

I hear you. I am 38 and don't have crows feet yet!!! I am often told I look late-20s, early 30s.

I know one of these days I am going to wake up, look in the mirror and scream SHHHHHHHIIIIIITTTTTTT!

I think wine helps as well, all the preservatives :D

A few years ago I was regularly told I looked 15/20 years younger than I was. After a couple of years of constant stress and no money it's gone down to 5 years. I do have that 1661 thing going on though which can be fun when young lads get a fright. :D:D

I know what you mean, but genuinely I do get met with surprise when I tell people my age - and I think I look younger myself because of the lack of wrinkles. That's just my face though, the bod certainly ain't what it was at 19. :)

When I was 30, a friend (same age) and I were waiting for a bus on the quays in Dublin, We had just missed one so decided to go for a drink in Fitzsimmons. Walked up to go in and the bouncer stopped me and said 'do you have ID?. I was so shocked as obviously I didn't have any. I just laughed and said 'Um, I'm 30!!!!!' He laughed and said ok and moved out of the way.

My friend then said 'would you like to see my ID?' and he replied 'nah, you're fine, go in'.

We got to the bar and I ordered a wine and said to my friend 'what do you want?' She replied through gritted teeth 'just a Coke, I don't like this place'.

We still laugh about it :D

So far everybody who is in older age groups say they look younger or are told they look younger, and everybody who is under 18 thinks they look about 20. This seems very self-complimentary (nothing wrong with that) but nobody seems to think they look their age, which I find hard to believe!

Maybe it is because we always tell each other that we look younger than our ages. Perhaps it's an easy compliment that people might sometimes fall for too easily?

From what I've seen of Irish people they tend to look their age or even a little older.... personally I am 24 and I think I look 24 although I could probably pass for 26.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,339 ✭✭✭How Strange

I don't think I look my age. I've never looked in the mirror and thought 'i look old'. I'm 37 and while I don't look 25 I think I look younger than my years. I see other 37 yr old women and some of them look so much older. I'm small and usually quite slim so I'd be considered petite and cute and I definitely think that helps. I'd look older if I was overweight because I'm such a short ar5e!

I know this is off topic, but is corona actually supposed to taste that bad?

Due to quality of life, delaying having children, better health/fitness awareness, improved grooming etc, people are looking younger than the popular post War notion of the way they "should" look now though. 30 years ago, a woman my age would more than likely have a good few children and life was harder, so she would have looked considerably older than I do.
I'm quite hard on myself when it comes to my physical appearance, so saying I think I look younger is not a form of self delusion - I genuinely do. There are women younger than me who have more wrinkles. I have a few barely-there fine lines on my forehead, that's it. But as I said, I gain weight more easily now and have white hairs - these are things that can be addressed though.

Oh c'mon grumpy pants... :D some people genuinely don't look their age. I think in my case not having kids has helped somewhat. And good jeans, definitely... good jeans can take at least a decade off :D

Trust me, I would be quite happy looking 25. The whole "how's school going" from random strangers is a pain in the backside. I'm sure I'll find it flattering in years to come but  At least I haven't gotten it since I changed my hair style/colour.
25 already is very young ffs!

I get a mix! I'm 21 and got ID'd for cigarettes twice this week. On the other hand, a new girl at work guessed I was 23 or so. So, I guess it depends.

Another girl I work with is 35, and I would have given her 28, 30 tops!

I'm 24, I reckon I look my age. Lots of grey hairs, but I think I'm fairly fresh looking. Hopefully I'll actually manage to accomplish something before age takes its toll!

I THINK I look my age, I don't understand why some others don't. Tbh no one says "oh of course you look xx", they only comment when you appear younger then they'd expect.

Yeah, when I was in my early 20s, "What year are you in at school?" etc used to drive me mental, but I ain't complaining about being thought of as younger now. :pac:
