As much as I love Kings of Leon... there is no way in hell I would have paid 80quid to go see them.

Why did you buy the ticket in the first place?

And you have never heard of Thin Lizzy? They may be a tribute band now, but still if you havn't heard of them then there is something very, very wrong.

The amount of people trying to sell their Slane tickets in the last week has been hilarious! Mostly down to Champions League final tonight I reckon, but the lineup didnt warrant me buying one in the first place.

The prospect of standing in the wind and rain isn't helping I'd say.

I think this is where Slane went all wrong.

Thin Lizzy, The Rolling Stones, U2, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Queen , David Bowie, Guns N' Roses, Neil Young, R.E.M. ............... The Verve and Robbie Williams.

True. It would have to be a very good line up to peel me off the sofa. No, ill take a few beers and the European cup final by the fire over a day standing in the rain in a big field in Meath.

    Madonna? The Eminem attempt?

Its a brutal line up today for 80 quid, KOL nowhere near good enough to match some of the better headliners. I see KOL when they only had good albums along with the Pixies and a much better line up in Landsdowne road years ago for about 50 euro.

I bought a Slane ticket hoping the line up would be great but its been a huge let down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 673 ✭✭✭Tubsandtiles

Op if you don't think the Kings of Leon are good live why do you have a ticket ?, they sound alot better I will say indoors eg the 02 but... White lies are the best band I have ever seen live, Mona are a new band starting off :D, Elbow are amazing live and we all know what Thin Lizzy are :). Whats the big deal with people saying its a crap lineup on Facebook, you bought the ticket for the headline act before the supporting acts were unannounced :). I couldn't stand the majority of those people only singing along to sex on fire anyhows :)

You should have waited 'til the lineup was announced :P

Last years one was muck too. Oasis and the Prodigy would have been stellar if it was still 1996.

And eh, weren't the Stereophonics headliners at one point?
Fairly major drop in quality compared to Queen or Bowie

That lineup gives me a boner, right up to The Verve  What was the change that happened there?

Last great Slane was 2003. Feeder, QoTSA, Foo Fighters and RHCP. It was epic.

Slane really needs to land AC/DC next year or it'll be a Take That/Westlife double header!

Festivals are apparently great craic, as long as you aren't there for the music. So I've been told, anyhoo.

The line-ups for this person and his taste, have been crap for years.

Yep, from then on it became deeply disappointing for me. Dire.

Part of the problem is that there are fewer bone-fida rock bands around these days who can fill a big bowl with enough noise and pyrotechnic action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

I think the problem is over exposure. Kings of Leon seem to be playing here every six months.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,048 ✭✭✭✭Snowie

The problem being that every album the kings of leon have done.

Sounds like the last one there **** there sticking to that same old yay were on winner so why change what we do

wel kol it gets Fvcking boring

I was too young to see Springsteen there, remember all my brothers heading off to it, bastards, would love if he played there again.

Was only ever there once, GnR '92, was burnt to a crisp and don't recall anything about the gig.

Slane badly needs a Led Zeppelin reunion. Now that would be epic!

That's the state of music, nowadays. If Kings of Leon get to headline Slane, it doesn't say much about the bands that are around.

The "rockstar" is dead. Now it's just lads having a handy time making lots of money and touring.

    Kings of Leon are shyte.

Every song seems to be just the one poxy tune recycled.

KoL are probably one of the most boring live bands you will come across. All filler no killer. Definably wouldnt pay the ticket price or go to the effort of going up to it.

They'll always be a bunch of farm boys from the early 00's to me. Didn't like them then and I most certainly don't like them now.

Sorry, it was the best gig I've ever been to, first time I saw him live, but I was so blown away that I went over to Leeds then on the same tour. Have been all over Europe to see him since, but still remember that gig, boiling hot day, crowd being hosed down. I was extremely hung over from the night before, so much so that when the bus we went up on stopped at a pub for lunch, my friend and I stayed on the bus and drank 7Up:rolleyes:

    So jealous man :D

I have a bootleg of the gig and he is constantly asking the crowd are the okay, you could hear the fear and concern in his voice. I must upload some of it to YouTube as even without video, it's great to hear his reaction to the crown, especially with it being the first time he played here.

You want some nostalgia, here's a BBC report on the day of the first UK gig and the footage they show is from Slane:

I dropped my sister and her husband off at Slane a few hours ago. Lots of beered up knackers around the place, and that's only in the surrounding fields. She said that it is knackeragua in the grounds as well. I don't think the cops are bothered anymore. That's what allows the lawlessness that exists nowadays. We'll never learn in this country.

Just had a look at the lineup, it's pretty bad for Slane.

The lead singer sounds like an oul fella. They are Lynard Skynard lite for the new generation, who think they look "hunky"

    That would be awesome.

Or how about a Pink Floyd reunion?

Feck it let's have Led Zep and Pink Floyd on the same day. Come on Henry make it happen :)

Now that would be a Slane gig to go to.

was at slane 98 lineup was The verve ,manicstreetpreachers
realy good and will never forget it.

was at slane 2009 = desaster and i will never return, unless henry gets the beatles to reform and brings john lennon and george harrison back from the
    dead.
