When should you report a person missing

    Hi,
I know two people who went to the UK on a day trip yesterday. They were due home at about 11 last night. But they never arrived, no one can get through to them on the phone. Both men have family's so its strange that they would not at least let someone know whats happening or if they are okay. One of their phones is ringing out and the other is off.

So how long should you wait before reporting someone missing?

    Thanks

24hrs usually. If it's someone close, follow up with your own investigations. Contact all places they have visited/stayed and ask have they left etc. Contact transport authorities to see if they have travelled etc.

You can notify the gardaí as early as you like, however as they are both grown men, they may have just got "delayed". I wouldn't worry too much about the phone thing - you'll probably find one of them lost his phone (or has it on silent) and the other ran out of battery.

If they were my friends I'd start by calling the airline and asking if they know if they boarded the flight home. The airline may not be able to give you the information (data protection), but explain the situation and ask.
