Lost All My Motivation & A Few Questions

    Hi everyone,

I suppose I'll just launch straight in. I decided to change my eating habits in February, and basically just get healthier, as over the previous few months I had been steadily piling on the pounds. I used to be 131lbs at 5ft2 and now I'm 121lbs but I've hit a slump the past few weeks. I'm not losing any weight/gaining some back () and I'm getting bored with my diet and exercise routine. I run 3-5 times a week, although last week and this week are exceptions due to exams. But basically I want to lose about 10-12 more pounds but I've just lost the will to keep going really, over the past few weeks I've been picking at food non stop and no matter how many times I tell myself to focus I lapse again after a day or two.

Is there any way I can get myself focussed again? Cause I really want to lose the rest of this weight as I've seen such a difference so far even though it is only 10lbs! And I want to maintain my healthy habits forever.

Oh and also I've heard people talking about going cold turkey on sugar to get rid of cravings and I've been considering doing this but what exactly do you classify sugar as? Does it include fruit? And how long would you do it for?

    Thanks :)

    Hello Hedwig,
I would suggest you adhere to your natural diet of frogs and mice and be sure not to make a racket in your cage and wake the dursleys or you will be locked up for good!!

It can be hard to keep on track with exams and such as it can be stressful and put you out of sync with your normal routine. Go for a run when you can and im sure you will feel alot better - you did really well to go from 131 to 121 and you can continue to progress with the exams behind you. The thought of going back running and eating well is daunting but once you do i bet you will enjoy the training and feeling great.

Fruit is so amazingly good for you I dont know why you would want to remove it from your diet!
    Best wishes :)

I completely agree with you. This month has seen me suffer a sports injury, a sinus infection, and the usual madness around exam time. I'm bloody tired, and I don't want to diet in the slightest. So I haven't.

However, I'm giving myself this weekend to enjoy what I want, and then this Monday onwards back to healthy eating. Hang in there. You can do it.

    Thanks for the advice :)
I'm just trying to get myself re-focussed and after my exams are finished I really intend to get things going again!

I know that fruit is really good for me but I do eat quite a lot of it and I was just wondering when people cut out sugar for a while does that count natural sugar as well...?

Generally yes, or you could switch to lower sugar fruit like blueberries or strawberries.

It's mostly about retraining your palette. After two weeks of zero sugar vegetables start to taste sweet.

After that you can start reintroducing fruit.

Your gonna keep wanting to eat high calorie foods during your exams though, mental exertion triggers a need for higher cals, whether you need them or not.

    Thanks!

I think I'm going to try that once my exams finish as I'm having problems with sugar cravings. But is it not difficult to no/very little sugar... peppers are quite a sweet vegetable, would I have to cut those out as well?

Nope, all things we call vegetables are good to go.

^ but what about all that sucrose, fructose and glucose in carrots? ;)

personally I wouldn't give up fruit. I will happily accept all the nutrition and taste and allow the fiber to perfectly regulate the fructose into my system.

High fructose fruit drinks on the otherhand -no thanks!

hope study is going well for ya:p

I think you need to approach this in a more structured manner. Firstly what is your build and if you know it your body fat%? If your relativley 'lean' then you have already reached the limit of how much 'weight' you can lose. If you are not eating enough then you are more likley to 'pick at food' this is your body telling you to sort yourself out probably because you are inflicting too much of a calorie defecit on yourself. This is a common aproach to losing weight but it ultimatley backfires because it's just silly and doesn't actually work.

If your only doing cardio and no resistance training your also unlikley to achieve the body shape you want. And on that word what is it you actually want?

Achieving a certain weight is a common goal but not very meangingful. It doesn't tell you if your eating a well balanced diet, if you are strong, fit and healthy or anything else of use. It's just a number. And read on it's own typically always interpreted wrongly.

Trying to snatch at nutritional one off's like eliminating sugar wont work and not knowing really what sugar is tells us that more nutritional knowledge is required.

A lifestyle (i.e for life.) full of quality nutritional and filling food should never result in failure because it is a daily habit.
