Sorry I know this is probably a common question asked but Im not sure what to do, Im broke, every week I just about make ends meet and I pretty much never go out or do anything.
Im starting work on Monday but Ive no money after this week!!
Does anyone know whats usually done in this situation?
Come next week, I literally wont have a penny, itll be like 'Pursuit of Happiness'.
To add to that, Ive rent to pay next week as well.

Is the done thing borrow off a friend? Or does anyone know if there are any sort of entitlements
    Thanks

I purposely didnt tell the dole yet, I probably wont be able to collect it anyway, but just in case I get off early or something in my first week I said Id use that opportunity to collect.
I dont feel guilty over this, I havent a penny.

It's a problem alright when you go back to work. Legally you're obliged to tell the dole office (by phone is sufficient) of the date you're starting work.

I borrowed from friends/family until I was paid (a month later), but made it very clear exactly how much I was asking for, and when I'd pay them back. I suspect it would be irritating if someone asked for 20 quid at random moments.

You can also talk to your community welfare officer to see if they can help you out during the first month, particularly if you're getting rent allowance.

Whether or not you tell SW they will take the money back if you get over paid!! You could talk to your SW officer as it's a crap situation to be in especially if you are going to be paid monthly. Or try the bank for an overdraft - they most they say is no, give it a shot!

Best of luck in the new job :)

dont have a solution for ya but make sure you tell the dole office, because if and when you end up on it again they'll give ya hell and make ya jump through hoops for it.

Is this a good job you're going to?

If you're on a monthly salary, sometimes you can start work and not get paid for seven weeks after you started.
So I've seen people ask for a sub from accounts and they get it. No big deal, employers understand

Can you ask for a sub?

Or if you've signed a contract of employment you can approach your bank/credit union and get a small loan or overdraft based on that.
Only thing is these things may time to be approved.
But if this is a good permanent job you're after getting and have a contract, you should have no issue getting approved for something small, a few hundred euro

    Hi all
Thanks very much for the advice, unfortunately its not a long term position, just a 3 month contract.
So Im going to have ring the dole and just suspend the money.

Regarding getting a sub, it may be possible to get something off the boss , but that probably wont happen for a month at least. I guess all I can do is beg borrow or steal!!

    Thanks for the help
Disappointed theres no entitlements/loans that will help ease the financial pain for a few weeks
