RTEjr now transmitting the RTE Two programme in SD

might be a bit confusing to the kids, though - you have to select the NAR stream to get the programme audio. Otherwise it's RnG or Lyric, depending on whether the TV is set to iri or eng!

One of the benefits of Saorview certified STB (Triax TR112) - tuned automatically . As fat-tony said, RTÉjr now transmitting same programmes as RTÉ TWO. However EPG for RTÉjr does not show individual programmes whereas RTÉ TWO EPG has been listing them individually since 12:00 (today).

    Different Schedule now.

Its not transmitting the same video - right now there is a cartoon elephant on - while rte2, is showing a live action TV - if i had a child familiar with these programs i could give you there names - unfortunately my daughter has not yet mastered english being only 18months (also she insists on watching CBBC and CEBBIES - i cant blame her for that!)

EPG now showing on RTÉjr - same EPG as for RTE TWO though different (video) programme. Not expert enough to say which is correct EPG for which programme!
EPG now also showing for RTÉ ONE + 1 - individual programmes listed starting at 19:00 (today).

Where were you Liamtech - we've been arguing if it's HD or upscaled SD since the DOG appeared around 11.00:D
My money is on "Timmy Time" as the first true HD programme since Saorview was launched yesterday - you can keep your Magners League :D:D

Strange the EPG data for RTEjr and RTE2 are the same - YET the programing is very much different!:D Obviously a completely different channel - i expect UPC may have to get RTEjr off their EPG line up as the have it - but with them it really is just RTE2

Ive just realised this has already been stated - sorry folks - TYPICAL - i waited all morning (not to mention the last 3 years) for saorview to become fully operational, and when im out at the shop, everything comes online - Oh the pain, the pain of it all!

Yes they diverged about 12:00. Both have the RTEjr DOG but have different programming... my little brain is confuddled:p

Ok - they seem to be repeating the programming from earlier this morning - Peppa Pig on now (was on at 09.20) whew!

DOG is RTÉ TWO HD, while on EPG listed as RTÉ Two.

there seems to be a delay coverage of rte2 on rte jr of about 5 mins,, so it is the same programming

Hopefully DOG will become more discrete over time as per BBC HD channels on Freesat.

IM not sure it truely is the same programming to be honest - I watched for about five minutes then switched back to RTE2 -

To be honest - it makes sense not to have the same schedule.... i mean whats the point in having the same programming on two stations - might aswell just have rte1+1all day in that case -

BUG not DOG, lets just get rid of them do we really need them when we have an EPG telling us what channel we are watching?

DOG - not bug - let's leave that to the US or Canada:D

Are they really needed? regardless of what you want to call them.

... there are reasons why the vast majority of digital channels put DOGs on screen - they help to tell you where you are as you flick through channels and play an important role for channels in helping to establish their brands through the content they go alongside...
    - Danielle Nagler, Head of HDTV at BBC Vision.

DOG issue also reared its head in 2008 when BBC HD channels launched on Freesat.

Brand recognition is really all it is about.

For example my sister doesn't get why people still flick, if she is watching a programme she isn't all that interested in she will bring up the guide and have the one channel in the background if she see anything she likes she will move to it, saves her the "headache".

BUGs/DOGs are unnecessary as when you do flick on digital TVs the name of the channel appears on screen, I am sure EPGs could be set to show the brand logo rather than just simple RTÉ One or TV3.

It is amazing how people get sucked into so called "brand" recognition.

I assume we call them BUGs since the first company to provide them in Ireland was a Canadian one.

RTE can now use the excuse that the DOG isn't only to tell you what channel you're on.

It also tells you if the content is native HD or not.

Only true if they switch it correctly;) ...and if you can't tell from the picture, then maybe it's all a bit pointless:)

Off topic, but re DOGS, Sky have dropped them from their entertainment channels. If you have Sky1/Living etc, you will only see the DOG for 15 seconds when a show starts or returns from ad break, then it's gone! Nice!

Didn't know that. Shows you how often I watch those channels. I like that idea though.

Very nice. Hopefully RTE will take note of this and the BBC HD dog. RTE TWO dog looks massive, especially intrusive during movies shown in 2.35:1.

They used to do this back in the pre-Astra days on Sky Channel.
