How many guitars...?

    Probably been done before, but...

    1) How many guitars do you have?

    2) How many guitars do you need?

    3) How many guitars do you want (not €500,000 vintage classics, but real, in production guitars that you can buy new)?

    Me:

    1) Just two, a 1998 Gibson Les Paul Standard and a late '70s/early 80s Pearl Les Paul replica.

    2) I don't think I actually need any more for what I do. However...

    3) Apart from wanting vintage classics, I feel that I want a decent Strat, a decent Tele (but with a 'bucker at the bridge), a decent hollowbody (eg Byrdland), a decent semi-hollow (eg 335), an SG, and a high-end acoustic. And, bizarrely, something like a Hofner Shorty.

I have no interest in superstrats, Jazzmaster or Jaguars, or any sort of bass.

If someone asked the same question of me about amps or pedals, I'd be in permanent indecision. I think I'm lucky to have found the guitars I want to keep for the rest of my life. But I don't think I'll ever be able to say that about an amp or a drive pedal. I want them all. Literally.

    1) I've only one at the moment, a Schecter Diamond Series C1 with Seymour Duncans.

    2) I could do with having two, I rarely play metal unless it's actually in my metal band, I could do with a tele or strat for the indie stuff I've been asked to play etc. I had a squier standard strat, but sold it.

    3) There's too many to list. By right I'd like to have one of all kinds for variety and to try them out to find which one I like best. To be honest, I'd probably never have more than 4 if I was loaded. The main thin I'd go for would be a decent tele, a jazzmaster, a nice les paul and something crazy like an 8 string with emg's.

    1) 10
    Gibson Les Paul Standard (Honeyburst)
    PRS CE22 (fire flame)
Schecter Corsair Porl Thompson with Duncans
Ibanez S7420 7 String with DiMarzios
    Ibanez RG321EX with active EMG's
Custom Hand Built Strat - with Duncans (built by my good self)
    Yamaha Custom Tele with Duncans
    Takamine EA40C
    G&L L-2000 Tribute Bass
    Cort GB54 Bass

    2) I need 1 I guess - but sure that's not an appropriate question! :)

    3) I had a '52 Fender Tele that I miss - I'd like to get another one.
Generally, I love building strats & tele's so I think I'd like to make a couple more if I find the right components!

    1) 9
    Gibson Les Paul Standard
    Fender Strat (Jap)
    Eros MKII Les Paul
    Squire Tele
    Squire Bullet
    Squire Jazz Bass
    Encore Semi Acoustic
    Alhambra Acoustic
    Charvel Strat

    2) 1 - My favourite is the Squire Tele.. but it I had to only have one, I would probably keep the Les Paul Standard.

    3) None really.. but if I do buy another one again, it will likely be a Jap Tele..

    I have 2.

    1991 (64 re-issue) Fender Telecaster - Custom Red
2003 Gibson Les Paul in Vintage Sunburst.

    I don't want any more.

    1. 11
2 X Les Paul stds (different years and pu configs, one std tuning, one Eb std)
    1 X USA strat deluxe
1 X Squire strat (HSS, used for D dropped C tuning)
1 X IBanez RGT (EMGs, for teh trash metulz and brootz)
    1 X Squire P-bass
    1 x Crafter Electro acoustic
1 X Hand made Spanish geetar
    1 X Mandolin
    1 X Ukulele
    1 X Guitar Hero Controller :D

    2. I use all of them regularly, and would like more.
eg. I like to have an acoustic set up for DADGAD and another for slide in open G, another for Eb tuning, and a 12 string as well as the one I have.
A single guitar set up in a specific way does limit you creatively once you're at a certain level.
I'm also learning piano/keys, I got a Axiom Pro a while back. Eventually I'd to be able to play every instrument to some level. Freud might say that I'm overcompensating for the fact that I have a very poor singing voice but what does he know!!

    3. I'd ideally want a guitar of each type set up for each tuning and style that I play. If you run the permutations that's probably 100+. Probably not going to happen though...:(
I'd also like a couple of banjo's and other stringed instruments.

    1)5
1994 USA strat, HSS Active emgs
    2001 Mex strat
    epie les paul standard
    Tanglewood TW155 (acoustic)
    Hohner countryman (acoustic)

2)for giging, i only only use the USA strat with the mex or LP as a backup. could live with just the USA strat!

    3) Really want a gibson LP standard. Im mainly a strat and LP man!

    1) I have three, a Mexican Tele Standard (hot rails bridge), CIJ Jazzmaster and Squier '51.

    2) I could live happily with just my Jazzmaster.

    3) Something hollow and something nicer for humbuckers maybe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,635 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ravelleman

I have 3: my 2004 Gretsch Annie (Filtertrons), my 2010 G&L Legacy and my 2005 Fernandes Ravelle (SD 59/Custom Custom).

I think I could happily survive with just my Legacy.

At the moment I want three things: an Epiphone Elitist Casino, a G&L ASAT (Classic, Bluesboy or Special) and a high quality dread´ like a Martin D 28.

    1: 10 plus a few bits
    1968 Fender Telecaster
1996 Fender Stratocaster (Mexican) with Duncan Hot Rails in bridge
2002 Gibson Les Paul Special w/Bigbsy
2004 Tokai Love Rock Gold Top (Japanese)
    1972 Framus Archtop
2003 Stanford D20-P Custom (built just for me)
    2002 Martin 001-R
    2009 Guild M20
    2008 Cort SJB6 acoustic bass
    1983 Squier Bullet bass (Japanese)
Daddy Mojo 4 string cigar box guitar
    Ohana SK25Z ukulele
    Ohana CK50MG ukulele
    Atlas Cuatro de Puerto Rico

2: The Stanford and the 68 Telecaster. That Tele has seen a lot in its 43 years and the Stanford oozes acoustic mojo.

3: Just want a Gretsch and a great 12 string. A double cutaway White Falcon, a White Penguin LTV or a Chet Atkins solid body with leather trim would do for the Gretsch, and it's hard to look past the 412 Guild as a 12 string

    3

    McIlroy A30c
    Gibson SG standard
    Fender Strat American deluxe

I don't need any more for the moment!

    1)
    13 including basses

    Agile Intrepid 8 string
    Schecter C7 Hellraiser
Ibanez RG7621 - Am selling it so will be gone soon
    Jackson Sl2H
    Jackson SL3
    Charvel Model 4
    Harley Benton Tele
    Sx strat copy
    Richwood stra copy
    Samick 3/4 size body
    Tangelwood Acoustic
OLP Tony Levin 5 string Bass
    Fretless Jazz Copy

A few of them are cheap guitars but most play alright and have been upgraded a bit. I really want to pick up a few more higher end guitars but it'll be a while. I've got my mind set on getting a nice 7 string from the states in the next few months, haven't decided on one yet though.

    2)
Probably a nice 8 and 7 string, a good 6 string superstrat, single coil vintage style, something with humbuckers but not metal. I'd also need a 5 string bass. That would do me for most things.

    3)
There's a load of guitars I'd love to have to cover a lot of bases. A nice hollowbody, a fan fret 7 or 8, a chapman stick, a fretless guitar, a dobro etc. As well as having a few more nice varied standard electrics. Of course I don't think I'll ever be happy with what I have and will always be looking at more.

Ive 9 guitars... one bass and acoustic, the rest electric

    Ideally I think I'd need 4 guitars

There's probably only a handful of guitars I'd be interested in if there was no limits in anything :)

    1) How many guitars do you have?

    1) 1988 American Standard Fender Strat
    2) 1987 Kramer Ferrington
    3) Martin 000CXE
    4) Takamine G-series
    5) Kramer Pacer (this is going to be a gift for my 16 year old)
    6) ESP LTD Kirk Hammett Junior Electric Guitar (for my 3 year old)
    7) Fender Telecaster Joe Strummer tribute
    8) Jackson Randy Rhoads RRFR5
    9) 1984 Charvel (formerly owned by Dweezil Zappa)
    10) Neal Moser strat (also formerly owned by Dweezil Zappa)

    2) How many guitars do you need?

Ridiculous question !! There is only one answer .....MORE !!

    3) How many guitars do you want ?

    Buddy Blaze 'Shredder'
    J Frog - 3D Skull 'n Bones
Ibanez Jem series (have no idea which one since there are dozens of them over the years)
    '62 Gibson SG
    '59 Gibson Les Paul
    PRS Custom 24

Being a life long Jimmy Page fan, I would love a double neck. I have heard that they aren't really great to play, but there is still a part of me that doesn't care.

This may sound crazy but I've 5 and only started lessons a few weeks ago. My main instrument has been 5 string Banjo for a few years, just never got around to seriously learn to play Guitar. Yesterday I got a Tak Ef440 SC GN, the rest are cheap and cheerful ones I picked up on adverts over the last couple of years. I have 5 banjo's too, I guess I don't need all them either:o

Right now - just the one:

2003 Black Gibson Les Paul Std with a few upgrades. The long term plan is to add a Deluxe Strat and Tele.

    1) How many guitars do you have?
I've got 8 and they are:
    1 x Yamaha Nylon-stringed acoustic
    1 x Mitchell Steel-stringed acoustic
1 x American Series Fender Strat
    1 x Squier Precision Bass
    1 x Peavey Predator
    1 x Ibanez K7
    1 x Ibanez K5
    1 x Ibanez SR706
    2) How many guitars do you need?
The correct answer is all of them :). Seriously though, I tend to most often play the three Ibanez instruments. The others are all sitting in their respective cases as they either lack the requisite low B string or they're just not very much fun to play.
    3) How many guitars do you want?
I've a vague hankering for an 8 string guitar but I'd like to play one first to make sure the neck isn't too wide for me. Other than that I'm pretty much set.
