Hiring a car abroad, flying ryanair

We're travelling to Spain by ryanair next week. My plan is to hire a car for when we're there. Question; if I bring booster seats from our car at home, rather than hire them with the car, will I be able to let the kids carry them on as hand luggage I.e. No other bags, just the base seat?

Anyone with experience of doing this recently?

Can't think why it would be a problem but you never know:D

Here's what child-friendly Ryanair say on they website
    CAN I BRING INFANT EQUIPMENT - CAR/BOOSTER SEATS/TRAVEL COTS?

There is no checked or cabin baggage allowance for infants. However, one fully collapsible pushchair per child is carried free of charge and does not need to be prebooked. If using online check-in, the pushchair should be taken to the Bag Drop desk to be tagged before going through security.

Infant equipment such as car/booster seats that are not part of a pushchair or a travel cot can be carried in addition to your personal checked baggage allowance on payment of a separate Infant Equipment fee per item/per one way flight (max 20kg) Click here for rate details. These items can be booked online at the time of booking or via the Manage My Booking section. Click here for details. Any item of infant equipment weighing over 20 kilos will be charged for the excess weight at the applicable rate per kilo.

Infant equipment up to a maximum of 20kilos (car/booster seats and travel cots) booked online is charged at the rate of £10/€10 per item/per one way flight or at the airport or through a Ryanair call centre, the higher rate of £20/€20per item/per one way flight will apply. Any infant equipment weighing over the 20 kilos allowance will be charged for the excess at the applicable excess baggage rate per kilo

Really, OP, this took seconds to find on the Ryanair site...probably as long as it took you to write your post! :D

I guess that's put me in my place :p

Actually, having now read the full page from ruinairs website, it looks like they don't allow any car seat in the cabin...great!

    Thanks for all responses.

OP, if your children are over 135cm in height they won't legally require booster seats in Spain.

When we hired a car in Portugal last year they gave us the babyseat for free. It wasn't an international hire company, it was a local one, but they didn't seem interested in charging us for the seat at all. It meant we had no issues with luggage limits as we only had the buggy to check in. Maybe contact the hire company and see if they can do you a deal? Most are willing to negotiate, even if they have set policies.

If the kids are over 135cm they'll be well above the age considered an infant by Ryanair (<2 y.o.) and will have the same fare and baggage allowance as an adult.

If they're just booster seats, why don't you just put them in a hold all as the kids hand luggage? Ryanair don't care (up to a point) about what's IN the bags, just the dimensions.

I Booked baby equipment online for 20eur return and wrapped 2 booster seats in black bags and checked them in - no problems - even put suncream and anything heavy between them because they can weigh up to 10kg.
Easy peasy-got to spain got the car and put our car seats in.

Those inflatable/collapsable booster seats are neat - haven't seen/heard of them before so I'll check them out for a long-haul flight coming up. I doubt it, but is there anything similar for a full sized car seat (ie: for a 2 year old)?
