Proper order. If only we'd adopt such laws.. It's like Strauss-Kahn.. If convicted he'll be given a minimum of 25 years.. Doesn't matter who you are or where you come from.

Would make the scumbags in this country think twice before they destroy someones life. Sadly, if caught, their consequences compile of a slap on the wrist..

In Ireland, he would probably get 7 years and serve 4 years. Get released and repeat offend multiple times, get caught and serve maybe another 5 years. Get released again and eventually murder his next victim. The judge would probably give him a 16 year sentence and he'd serve probably 12 years. Of course he would still be only 40 years old when he got released again, so the 'world' would still be his oyster.

Minimum sentences for these crimes need to be taken to public vote.

I don't know a single person who agrees with the current laws regarding these crimes. This is a case of the law not reflecting society's wishes and needs to be changed.

If there's irrefutable evidence they should castrate the offenders in conjunction with their sentences.

There's nothing in that article that says how long a life sentence is in Guernsey. It also fails to mention whether or not he may be eligible for a early release after a certain amount of time or good behaviour.

Google tells me the average amount of time someone serving a life sentence will spend in prison in the UK is 13.7 years.

Judges in ire can hand down life sentences for these crimes,uk the judges can set a tarriff in how many years served before considered for parole.

Guernsey is notoriusly draconian when crime in general is concerned. a mate of mine got 200 hours community service for getting in to scuffle in a nightclub

Different parts of the UK have different life sentences.

Edit: In England, a life sentence can be anything between 15 and 40 years. If its similar in Guernsey, this guy could be out before he's 35.
