I saw on the AA that there was an accident on the Ennis Rd close to Ivans roundabout.
I am from that area. My dads house is less than 5 minutes walk away.
    Its a horrible junction.

    Bad news.
    RIP

If ever the RSA should put out ads warning drivers to be aware of cyclists and give them space its at a time like this with weather like that.

Sad news but I think it's a bit silly that the only reason this was posted is because he was on a bike. If he was on foot would someone post it in the walking forum??

Really? you want people to start discussing this now, on this thread. How appropriate.

@pcmd22 - if you have a problem with a post, please report it - responding here derails the thread

@omen80 - kennyb3's post has already addressed your point - if you don't think a thread is appropriate, you have the option of ignoring it - your comments were completely unnecessary, and added nothing to the thread

    Thanks

In fairness i don't think I did either there. A cyclist died tragically as a result of an accident with a car. However caused, awareness needs to be raised of the dangers to both motorists and cyclists. The TV has road safety ads with motor cyclists being hit by cars as well as pedestrians and also people in cars dying from no seat belts. No such mainstream ads to do with cyclists as far as I know. This tragic event in my mind should bring that issue to the spotlight. How many cyclists are there on the road? As many as motor cyclists I'd hazard a guess.

My post was not to point fingers but to raise what I feel is an important issue. Apologies if it came across otherwise.

There's no question that the number of cyclists on Irish roads has increased in recent times and anything that raises awareness of road safety is a good thing for all users but perhaps the issues you raise are for another thread.

    Very sad indeed.

I believe it is important to highlight these case sometimes, as it may reinforce the fact to the general driving public (me included) that cyclist are road users who in the event of a accident are very vunerable.

I make a point of mentioning unfortunate news like this to most people I know so that when they next pass a cyclist they think of the consequences of any errors and take more care.
