I know we should put an opinion when posting news but words actually escape me at this latest news.

My jaw has dropped and I'm dehydrating its been dropped so long. What the hell is wrong with the catholic church?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20110520/wl_time/08599207261300
(GENOA) - The latest sex abuse case to rock the Catholic Church is unfolding in the archdiocese of an influential Italian Cardinal, who has been working with Pope Benedict XVI on reforms to respond to prior scandals of pedophile priests.

Father Riccardo Seppia, a 51 year-old parish priest in the village of Sastri Ponente, near Genoa, was arrested last Friday on pedophilia and drugs charges. Investigators say that in tapped mobile phone conversations Seppia asked a Moroccan drug dealer to arrange sexual encounters with young and vulnerable boys. "I do not want 16-year-old boys, but younger. Fourteen-year-olds are OK. Look for needy boys, who have family issues," he allegedly said. Genoa Archbishop Angelo Bagnasco, who is also head of the Italian Bishops Conference, had been working with Benedict to establish a tough new worldwide policy released this week on how bishops should handle accusations of priestly sex abuse. (Read "Vatican Gets Tough on Child Abuse, but Not Tough Enough.)

Is it actually just a child abuse organisation masking as a religion? I'm shocked that these kinds of news is still coming out. I'm having to try hard to refrain from using foul language.

Surely we must examine properly the role of the catholic church in our society and our governments close links to this child abuse organisation.

Everybody knows that peados become priests, not priests become peados. Sick of the highest order. How this still continues is beyond me. Surely interpol or the EU police should be cracking down on this.

Why? Do you not think there is an abnormal level of child abuse in the CC compared to the rest of society?

At this stage, would anybody be surprised if the pope was found to be abusing children?

Not I! I nearly expect it to come out at some stage in the next few years.

Surely there is no way he could be ignorant that something odd was going on with this man who trusted with such responsibility.

i just doubt any criminal would go through 5-7 years of college just to commit his chosen crime.

It would appear so, i have not studied the stats. I know the religious amongst us disagree, saying other groups such as journalists and sports coaches would have the same or more pedos..

Well it seems that you will defend them to the hilt so no point trying to convince you how rampant child abuse by catholic priests is across the globe. Cover up after cover up and they won't face the problem head on. I presume its because the leadership don't want to deal with it.

So celibacy turns people into paedos?

Few would appoint one to reform the rules about what happens to such people when they get caught though I guess he is close to the issue so he probably knows a lot about how they go about it so they thought he was the right man for the job.

Maybe he will claim he was researching it and needed first hand experience :pac:

Any credible organisation that had any such scandal, let alone the number that the church has had, would do everything possible to ensure the people put in charge of reforming the area were not actually guilty of the crime.

I mean FFS, it is just basic logic!!

Maybe the only way to move up in the catholic church is to abuse your way to the top!!

i'd say it's not black and white, i'm sure celibacy and too much access to distressed boys has a part in the problem.
