Ireland vs UK?

The brother has another year to go in college and wants to go on and do his pgde the following year(think he will be approved to do maths/applied maths with his current degree). However he's stumped on a few different questions and would be greatful for any help. Thanks.

    1. Is it a smart move to do the PGDE over here and then move over to the UK for teaching work(likely looking at the jobs scenario here, although who knows in 2 years what things will be like)? Do they recognise the qualification over there? Are people actually going down this route atm.

    2. If he does go on to do it over there and get work afterwards, would he have problems down the line(say a few years) coming back to Ireland to get work with that experience?

    3. Can anybody recommend some good colleges to do the course in the UK? Seems like a minefield looking through the huge number of them. Are there grants? Would be great to hear any stories of Irish who went abroad to do it. I asked him how he would survive financially over there and he said there are grants but I'm guessing these would cover fees for the most part, he'd still need savings for rent/food etc?

    4. Why is his big brother taking time out to help him now........:D

    Thanks for any responses?

Why would you do it in Eire? There are not any jobs there and if he will work in the UK, better to do the PGCE there. The bursary of 9000 for Maths is fantastic and 3250 pounds for University fees is great compared to Ireland's fees.
With NQT status needed, I'm not sure if they in the UK will accept the Irish PGDE with out the induction year completed.
They will accept a fully qualified teacher from Ireland with initial teacher training year (year after course) completed, but how likely is it to get that year in Eire with jobs the way they are.
Not sure what Universitys are best. I'm doing Maths in Bangor in Wales and have no complaints.:)
