Hardtail caliper mount and dropout

    Good day!

My ridgeback MX5 frame died a sudden death.
Long story short, I bought a new frame, a Vitus Juice (55cm).
The Idea was to transfer all the components from the MX 5 to the new frame.

Hit a few snags though, firstly the disk brake mount does not fit the frame. I measured the frame, it seems to be around 50mm centre to centre. The bracket on the other hand seems to be more like 52mm. From reading stuff online, 51mm seems to be the IS. So my question is are there other bracket sizes? Had a look on CRC, they only seem to have the IS (51mm) brackets.
If not, I guess Ill just have to brake out the metal file, and go at it.

Second question is about the dropout. How to know which shape is correct? Looking on ebay, there are 100s of shapes, all have slight variations. Is there anyway to tell/choose a correct dropout? or is it the case of trial and error?

    Cheers

    PS

Sorry is this has been asked before. Noob, what can you do?

    One of these?

I assume by "dropout" you're referring to the derailleur hanger.

If it didn't come with a hanger I'd be straight onto the shop where you bought it.

For the disc mount - post a picture - it should just fit.

Sounds like the Frame is Bogey or your fitting the Disc brake mount wrong. As for a gear Hanger not being with the frame? Sounds dodgey, as said straight back. You can get replacement ones but its a pain in the ass without the original.

Yep, thats it. That where I got the frame. But mine cost 75euro.
Is it customary for the frames to be sold with hangers? (apologies, I thought "dropout" and "hanger" were used interchangibly)

Will post up a pic later today when I get home.

This build your own bike thing has a pretty steep learning curve...

Usually they do but there aint a hanger in the photo. The geometry on that frame is mad , particularly at the back. Give CRC a call and see.

I cant really see the subtleties of frame design....why do you say its mad?
I know might be abit OT, but how can you tell a well designed frame from a poorly designed frame?

Im not saying its poorly designed! not at all, Im just saying the angle on the seat stays are very vertical, just struck me. Nothing to worry about, Im more used to lower angles :)

Had a lok again last night at the disk brake mount, decided to just have a go at it with a drill, and a drillbit small enought to just fit inside the mounting points. Carefully ground away about 1 mm from the inside of each mount...

So all is good with the brake...

All thats left is to find a hanger and wait for the head set to arrive.
