Basically I tried replacing the old 2gb card with a 16gb.

I formatted the card, but when I try to transfer files from my computer to the phone the computer is only seeing the old 2gb card - although the phone is showing the new card.

    Any idea's guys?.

That's the internal storage not the sdcard. It should show up as 2 external drivers, you are looking for the other one. Make sure to select mount usb by clicking on the "usb connected" notification.

I've mounted the card and the phone is telling me I've 14.83GB on the External SD Card, but I can't seem to copy anything to it.

Nevermind what the phone says, use the PC. Are you using windows?

Plug cable into phone, click "usb connected" notification, select mount. Wait a few seconds, usually there are two popups on windows saying "what do you want to do with this disk". Open up file explorer, what drives are listed? Once you select "mount" (on the phone) two NEW drives should appear on your PC. Look closely at the list! They may not be labelled very descriptively, but both your internal phone storage, and sdcard should be there.

When you say you can't copy what do you mean exactly? Please elaborate.

Trying to move files from my computer to the card.

I select 'external SD' but after about 1.90gb it tells me the disk is full.

I thought that at first but I tried my son's card from his Samsung and the same issues arise.

Btw, with the USB mass storage clicked I can't 'mount' the card.

Can I mount the card through the PC?.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,898 ✭✭✭✭seanybiker

All I do is. Connect USB. Tap mass storage on phone screen. After a second or two a box appears on the computer screen. Just click "view files in this folder " seems your doing that though.
Go into "my computer" when you have it connected and check does the card appear there when connected to the PC. Maybe the internal memory is default pop-up when you connect it.

Your sdcard isn't mounted at all is the problem, the PC can't see it. You are just copying onto internal memory. The sdcard is corrupted possibly, have you tried rebooting the phone?

This can be quite tricky to fix without some knowledge involving fsck and stuff. Easiest way is to use a microsd adapter and plug into cardreader, then use pc to fix it. Otherwise use rooted phone and run fsck from command line. Give card to a techy mate and get them to repair it? Have you tried the filesystem repair option on the phone? This gets automatically run whenever sdcard is mounted anyway tho.

Worst case is a dud sdcard off ebay, but am assuming that's not the case.

I'm not getting a pop up, I've to go into my computer to select the which drive the phone is connected to.

Excuse my complete ignorance, is that just a switch off and back on again?.

Does your card work properly in your sons phone?
    This is strange

Where'd you buy the SD, Ebay?
    http://www.google.ie/search?aq=f&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=fake+sd+ebay

On phone go to settings, SD card and Storage, is the card showing there? If its not mounted, mount it, if it is, unmount it and format it then mount it.

Ok, I think at this stage that I'll just return the card to the seller and buy one over the counter here and go with that.

I can't understand what the phone seem's to be seeing the card, if I change between the old 2gb card and the 16gb the phone shows me the difference in the storage menu - but the computer doesn't seem to be seeing it, so I'm stumped.

Any further suggestions before I put it in tomorrows post?.

Hard to debug this over the internet mate, but I reckon any techy could figure it out pretty quick with the device in hand. Yeah bring it into a shop or whatever.

You could paste a screenshot showing the drives visible from PC? The 2gb will always show up no matter what, the 16gb should come up as a seperate drive.

Ok, when I put the 2gb card into the H drive the computer shows up my music and other files on the card.

But when I put in the 16gb here's the result!.

Thanks again for your help, you've been very patient.

Are you sure that the H drive isn't the phones internal memory and the I drive isn't the actual card memory

Well the same happens if I choose either drive - thats with the card in its adapter, and directly into the computer.

If I mount the card in the phone it only shows up on the phone and not the computer.

Don't use the mount/unmount option from the android settings menu, that is something different.

    Do this:
Make sure sdcard is inserted in phone properly.
    Reboot phone.
Plug usb cable into phone, and other end into PC.
    Notice notification thingy at top.
    Drag bar down from top.
    Click on "usb connected" notification.
    Select mount.

Now H: and I: should appear on PC.

Ok, I must be breaking your heart at this stage.

Ok I done that, but when I click on 'connect usb' the phone doesn't see any drive to mount, it just tells me (in both external and internal) that there's no memory available.

    The computer is showing all the drives but telling to to insert a disk into I & H when I try them.. Here's my drives;

    6034073

    Here's the contents of the J drive with the phone connected;

    6034073

    And the contents of the K drive;

    6034073

    Tbh I'm totally stumped.

This is getting confusing, is H and I your phone or J and K?

    J and K.

I feel like throwing the damned phone out the window at this stage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,874 ✭✭✭✭PogMoThoin

Ok, J is your internal sd, k your external sd card. Right click on k in the my computer window like below and goto properties, what size does it say it is?

    6034073

So if I put a folder in there I should be able to send files to it and view from the phone?.

(I feel like an idiot in this forum, sorry - but if you ever wanna learn Judo or BJJ :p ).

See, I've had too many bangs to the head!.

Yes, make a pictures folder, copy and paste (or drag and drop whatever way you like best) pics in there, make a music folder, put music in there, make a video folder.............................;)

Android will scan for new files as soon as you unplug it from usb, the pictures and videos will appear in gallery, the music will appear in the music app.

Occums razor. I think android plays most video formats so its only a case of dragging them onto the card and watching them. Its easy to get conflustered if your not used to things. Least you know something new now.
