help for long term bulimia

    Hi everyone
Im on the cusp of my 40s, and have suffered bulimia (to varying degrees, but pretty bad at the moment though) since my early 20s.

I've tried the group counselling, private counselling with different therapists, and found nothing worked (perhaps at these times when I wasn't quite ready?), so here I am nearly 20 years later still afflicted.

It is ruining my relationship, and my motivation to be social or productive (work-wise, which is especially detrimental, as I am also self-employed), and I now spend most days literally hiding myself at home, only leaving the house when I have to.

I have no children yet, but dearly want try for a baby, while I still have some time.

The job to get healthy however just seems so vast and insurmountable by myself, that I don't know how/where to start... Could anyone help??

Please dont suggest going to a doctor, I have..They've just given me information on Eating Disorder groups/counsellers etc etc

I cannot afford private counselling appointments. And from what I can find, most/all group counselling e.g. Bodywhyse etc seem to be held in evenings (when I have to work).

Im dubious about 'on-line' support groups etc - I physically need to go somewhere to 'be present' in steps to my recovery, if that makes sense.

I am at my wits end.. I dont want to bring this dreadful, constrictive disease into another decade of my life...

Has anyone here successfully recovered from an ED by themselves? Or know of Group sessions (Dublin) take place in mornings of afternoons?

    Thank you

OP, you need more specific and personal help than you can get here. Of course posters can post their own experiences, but in reality, you need to get yourself to proper help. This is too big a deal for you to try and self fix, I think.

I suggest you contact http://www.bodywhys.ie/ or talk to your gp for further help and advice. Do not be embarrassed to discuss this, you are not alone, it is an illness like any other. Many, many people have suffered like you and overcome the illness.

You may also find useful information here http://www.eatingdisorderselfhelp.com/

Im afraid I do have to close this thread as you require medical advice and help, and we cannot provide that here. I wish you well in your recovery, which, by posting here, you have already begun.
