    Looking at a start-up business.

Any opinions as to what would be an appropriate sample size for market research? The market is the general population.

    Thanks

If it is the general population with no difference on age group etc then I think you need to reasearch up to 1000 people on the streets, the more the better.

But is it really the general population or is there a cut off of people who are not computer literate etc?

Great point there OP, it's highly unlikely that the market is for the general population. I can't think of anything right now that doesn't have some sort of cut off, for the people they are marketing at, whether it's language, age, education level, sex, etc etc.
