For those roaming on Vodafone PAYG.
Many others will have switched to other operators for much better roaming deals.

Standard call charges on Vodafone PAYG are 25 - 45 c / minute. The standard text charge is 13 c

While roaming within the EU, with Vodafone Passport
    • Pay a 79c connection fee, then the same per-minute rate you pay to call at home
    • When you receive calls you just pay the 79c connection fee - no matter how long the call lasts
    • Minimum call charge of 1 minute with 30 sec charge intervals thereafter
Remember, local promotions such as free calls and texts cannot be used while roaming.

While roaming within the EU, without Vodafone Passport
    (Vodafone World)

    • Pay no connection fee, then 47 c per minute (42 c/min from 1st July 2011) to make a call
    • Pay 18 c per minute (13 c/min from 1st July 2011) to receive a call
    • Minimum call charge of 30 secs with 1 sec charge intervals thereafter

@ your domestic standard call charge of 25 c/minute, it is cheaper without Passport for all calls made up to 3 minutes 48 secs
@ your domestic standard call charge of 29 c/minute, it is cheaper without Passport for all calls made up to 4 minutes 33 secs (€2.14)
@ your domestic standard call charge of 45 c/minute, it is cheaper without Passport for all calls made up to 7 minutes 25 secs (€3.49)

You can receive calls up to 4 minutes 23 secs cheaper without Passort than with Passport

The cheaper call times without passort will increase from 1st July 2011 when new, lower Vodafone World rates will be introduced in accordance with the EU Roaming Regulation

Except if in NI or UK then there is no connection fee if on Vodafone Passport but the EU charges apply if on Vodafone World.

Therefore use Passport when in NI & UK.

Just thought I'd bump this for the day that's in it. Vodafone World prices within the EU should be reduced from today, making EU roaming with Passport look an even more ridiculous proposition except for UK roaming.

the principle of "Passport" was not designed to save consumers money.
It increases roaming revenue from the majority of users.

Why?.... because most calls while abroad tend to be quite short and functional.
ie: "We're having a great time.... everyone is fine... see you soon" etc.

So that 79c connection fee is an anchor around your neck, unless you have long conversations, which most times are quite rare.
