    Hiya all,

I'm going on an assignment for my employer, and just want to make sure if there's a law stating a minimum amount of per diem that organizations must pay their employees when away on assignments?

Obviously I've tried googling for this, but haven't had any luck. So if anyone can point me to some helpful information, I'd appreciate it very much.

    Thanks!

I looked this up in the past and could find no law.

Oh, I see.. I think there is one, though. Corporations are rarely that giving by their own initiative :)

No there really is no law.

I agree with your employers tend not to do things out of the goodness of their hearts :) but if they are sending you somewhere to do a job it means they rate you and want to keep you happy.

You should certainly expect to get more than you need, e.g. if you're going to Morocco where you can expect to live on €20 per day you should get €40.

I've worked abroad and received a per diem in the past.

Ah, great! Thanks for your replies :) It's just that we're not getting paid up front, but have to document all of our spendings, so I'm afraid to go over the normal amount.. But I guess I'll have get some guidelines to go by before leaving :)

I'm sure they will brief you before you go, just make sure you keep all your receipts, train tickets etc., you can claim it all back on your expenses.

I travel a fair bit with work, and don't get a per diem at all. I've a limit for lunch & dinner, plus a list of things that I can and can't expense.

I worked abroad a good bit and got a per diem. In Kosovo i got €40 a day which was actually quite a lot as if you could feed a family of 3 on about €15 a week. The shops beside the UN/diplomatic hotels were more expensive. I paid 70 cents for a 2 litre bottle of coke :)

The hotel i stayed in had steak dinners for €6. I made quite a bit of money :)

I worked in Spain in Coruna aswell where again it was pretty cheap and i got €35 per day but all travel, meals, laundry, internet etc was all covered in expenses.
