In these austere times have any of you heard of a bartering system between neighbours or friends for homegrown veg, ironing ,baby-sitting,etc?Or are we still to proud to adopt such a system which would have been commonplace during difficult times in the past.

Id do it just to deprive the government coffers of a few quid.See how they like them apples.:pac:

Wonder how long it is before a sexual payment in kind suggestion is made.

    Thread title is misleading!

I think trades people still barter 'jobs' when they work on each others houses but I don't think it really happens between friends as such. Actually I've never seen it happen. If a mate needed me to babysit and I was available, I would do it without expecting reimbursement.

Not suggesting, only asking if others have any experience of it.I wouldnt be adverse to it as a means of supplementing our income, not existing solely off bartering.

In fairness you bring little to the table so I will offer you one mouldy carrot for that:pac:

I've given climbing lessons for...er...something and I got guitar lessons for....er....something else. I gave some personal training for rugby tickets, a microwave for gig tickets and gave a telly for help moving house. Makes sense to me.

I don't think my neighbours have anything they could give me, except maybe my tree that they dug up last year.

There was a thread in the Galway forum where you could ask for something in exchange for your skills. For example someone could teach you a new language and you'd teach them how to play an instrument.
Dunno how successful it was cos im crap at most stuff so was of no use to me :D

    Nope,just a banking system.:pac:

    Those other things are incidental.

Just to reiterate for the the lazy readers....Im only asking......possibly to save people a few quid if they have something to offer.

They are not incidental and have to be paid for. Therefore, depriving the government of a "few quid" is completely counter productive.

    Agreed on the items listed.

However Anglo, Callely's expenses, Alan turncoat Dukes' wages, Bertie Ahern's pension, etc, all come from the same pot.

So if they separate those out then I'll be happy to contribute.

Until then, I've no issue with people who find legitimate ways of not paying.

    Quite the pedant arent we?

A few quid which does not exist(although it does) as it isnt changing hands as the people who have gained a few carrots through bartering will be depriving the guvment of several pennies.

    Read the initial post sloooooowly,please.Stop.Think.Compute.Type.

    Cheers

If that site is successful then the revenue will get involved just like they have done with previous attempts at cashless tranasctions.

The group picture on their web site is a generic one , one wonders how they got it
