    Hi,

Need some help with some questions and would be delighted if someone could help!!

I received an invite to have a free Cervical Check done. I made the app and the nurse in my doctors done the test and explained everything to me!! To cut a long story short i received a letter this morning from Cervical Check and it said that my results were available at my doctors. I could not understand this as the nurse told me when having the test that the letter will state my results. The letter basically said " Your test results are available at your doctors". I called to my doctor and spoke to the nurse and she told me that i was to make an app with the doctor as she wanted to discuss my results!! I am so worried!! Has anybody had this experience??:confused::confused::confused:

Try not to worry, its more than likely something minor, but do make the appointment anyway with your doctor.

There are lots of reasons why they would tell you to contact your doctor, and few of them are anything to be worried about.

I gave blood some years ago and got a letter saying that my donation was being discarded. I freaked and rang them up - I thought I had something really bad that they found. Turns out it was a heavy cold at the time that meant they could not give my blood to someone. *phew*

hope it goes well for you.

Thanks so much for getting back to me!! I made the app for the morning!! When the nurse came out to me she said im not to worry and that both her and the doctor will talk to me!! She put her hand on my arm and i just fell to bits!! Know after thinking about the conversation in at the reception, i keep thinking the worst!!

Dont be worrying about it. Since it is your first smear it could be the tiniest abnormality but they need to speak to you about it. When I had my first smear I thought nothing of it. A couple of weeks later, with a dead mobile, I finally got home to charge it and as soon as it was turned on I received a call from my sister. The head doctor of our surgery, who she would visit had called her saying he needed to speak to me urgently and had been trying all day, he gave her his mobile number to get me to call when she got hold of me. I freaked out completely, she had been worried sick for hours not knowing what was going on. Anyway cut a long story short, my doc was away on hols and he received the letter with the results showing abnormalities and was worried, the drama of it nearly killed me but all was fine. I went for further tests, I was watched closely for a few years but hey, here I am all clear with nothing to worry about!

Don't worry about it. Often they won't even give you results in a letter as they prefer to have you come in so they can explain the results and answer any Q you have, rather than having someone reading the results wrong and having a panic attack at home with no-one to answer their Q.

It's actually quite common to have an "abnormality" (and in fact more than one doctor I have spoken to doesn't like that they medically have to refer to it as an "abnormality" as it conjures up uneccessarily scary images when patients hear the word "abnormal"), that can happen for any number of reasons, from not having gotten a good enough sample in the first place, the lab not running the tests correctly, you having had sex the night before, you having had a minor infection in previous months that you thought nothing of and that you wouldn't think has anything to do with your heath "downstairs", and that will clear up in time with no further intervention, basically what I'm saying is that even if you are told there is any abnormality don't jump straight to panic mode, it is common for slight changes in the cervix that will rectify themselves over time.

Medical people just like to keep an eye on things to be sure. They will probably just want you to go for a follow up smear in a few months (it seems like a long time but that's just to allow for anything to clear up by itself) to see what's what. Most people who get abnormal results go on to have completely clear smears again without any further intervention. Just don't panic, wait until you see your doctor and they will explain it all to you. Any further Q come back here to post. :)

    Hi all,

Thank you all so much for taking time to read my worry and answer the questions!! I had my appointment this morning and as it happens i have cni grade 3 and I am been sent for a coloscopy!! My doctor is great and she spent a long time explaining things to me! Basically she told me once I have the treatment done I will then be called back for 3x 6month smear tests and then if they are clear it will be yearly and then 3 years smear testing!! She made me understand that she will keep close contact with me and keep me very much up to date on everything!! Still very much shocked by it all but im a fighter and looking forward to the treatment to burn those bad cells away he he..:D

Hi there - try not to worry about the procedure - I had a colposcopy for a CIN2 October 12 months and had to have 6 monthly smears until last week which, as long as the result is ok, I'll go onto yearly for the next 5 years. The colposcopy itself is ok - mine was in Holles St & they were all very nice. The main thing is that you are now in the system and it is very important that you follow up going for your smears etc when you have to - your health is your wealth!! Good luck! :)

    Hi Kiki

Don't worry about it at all. I've had it all and trust me it is fine. After my first coloscopy I had a lletz to remove the cells, this freaked me out as I knew nothing about it nor did anyone I knew but it was absolutely fine, over and done with in a few minutes etc so no need to worry if it is mentioned. The coloscopy side of things is also fine. There is no pain, slight discomfort but again nothing to worry about. If you feel nervous or uneasy bring a friend with you. After all mine I insisted my close friends went for smears and went along with one for a coloscopy too to make sure she didnt worry needlesly.

Put it this way, while they are watching you, and treating you, you will be fine. Whatever it is will not go any further when you are keeping a close eye. I was as high as 3 myself in the beginning, it is around 7 yrs on and after frequent coloscopies, even while pregnant last November I received my all clear and will be going on to yearly smears. Ok I worried at the beginning because I didnt understand what was going on so educate yourself, the only other time I worried was having a coloscopy while pregnant.

One thing also, do you smoke? Nicotine can have a big affect on results, dont quote me on the exacts but I remember one doc giving me a lecture stating that it can directly affect the cells there so if you do smoke and think you can quit try and do so, you never know by the time you go for a coloscopy it may have lowered!

I had cin2 and 3, and had the colposcopys. While not pleasant, its ok.

I then had my 6 monthly smears for 18 months, and have just moved onto yearly ones, with everything being fine.

Dont worry, its good you are getting sorted now.
