How do I merge business fan page and my place page?

    Hello,

I have two questions and I would really appreciate some advice.

1 - I have a Facebook Fan page set up for my business. I also recently claimed a Facebook Place page for this business. However, these two pages are independent from each other and I would like to be able to merge them. How do I do this?

2 - This relates to the above question. I'm setting up a separate Facebook page for a family friend. I also want her to be able to have Facebook Places on this page so people can check into her business. So should I create this page from a new Facebook Place Page or should I do it as normal and find someway to merge them?

I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

There should be an option down the bottom left hand side of the place page which says something like "merge with page".

Once you click this it will ask you which page to merge with it and that should do it. I did it a few months ago. Agian with anything Facebook related, the result may not be as anticipated or go as planned. You should make sure that the place location on the place page is correct and that the addresses on both pages match.

If you are creating a place for a business that is a building with other businesses you should try and use "first floor" etc. Sometimes Facebook has a problem if the 'place' is already claimed. Using different floors can get around this.

I don't think you can create a unified Page and Place from scratch. Both have to be created separately and merged. Again this could have changed in recent times!

hi guys, can anyone explain to me how this place app works? how do i set up a place page on facebook? does it cost anything?

Costs nothing but you do need to be a member of Facebook first and you need to create the page using Facebook on a mobile device.

Here's how to do it: http://www.facebook.com/help/new/?faq=17394

You can then claim the place and merge it into your fan Page.

It's a free service other than your time.

    Hi Brian D.

Thanks for your previous response. However, I could be wrong but Facebook appear to have removed the "Merge" option on the Fan page. I have the same address for both the place and the fan page but it's not letting me merge them. Therefore I'm now creating a new Facebook Fan page directly from the Place page.

Hmmm... these things change regularly on Facebook! And it seems that they have removed this function for the manual merge (and unmerge)

Have a read of this article:

    http://www.insidefacebook.com/2011/05/16/places-functionality-pages-checkin-deals/

It seems that if your page has a street address that the place will magically appear.

Hard to know how it will pan out which is a big headache for page admins.

If it works better the way you describe then I would go with it!

Since I've started 'checking in' to places on Facebook mobile, I'm now asked to help improve Places when I login on the laptop - adding street addresses, categories, phone numbers and web URLS. Should be interesting for Ireland as quite often we are a little vague on our street addresses and locations!
