Collecting dole elsewhere?

Hi, I have just signed on the dole and I've been told its going to take a couple of weeks to get sorted. I have one question though. I had to give my home address because it is the only proof of address that I have. However, I'm living in Dublin and would prefer to collect my dole here than at home. Is it possible for me to collect my dole here instead of in my hometown, as travelling up and down each week to collect it would be a proper pain in the ass.
Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi, I'm in a bit of a similar scenario. I posted a question here too with my problem on it.. I think you'll have to do like me, and register in dublin. It seems that if you get a letter from your landlord, that that does as proof of address.

There is a rumour around that certain people have been able to get a parent to collect their money for them once they have signed a thing in the post office (a cousin said her brother did this), but I asked about that in my local office and they said there's no such thing... Maybe its not what you know, its who you know kinda thing...

Hmmm that's rather annoying isn't it?? I mean it's not like I'm trying to do anything dodgy, and I can't get a letter from the landlord cos I'm staying with my boyfriend for the time being and his landlord doesn't know... I know they have to be wary of people trying to break the rules, but I just wish they wouldn't make it so difficult!

    Hi Moses

Get a letter from your b/f stating you are staying with him and a copy of his tenancy agreement and get your claim transferred to Dublin. The fact that you are co-habiting also brings his means into the equation. If he is working then you will have to produce his recent payslip and if he is on benefit or allowance then the max you will get is the equivalent for a couple e.g. 188 + 124 approx.

Oh ya... maybe open an account in the credit union or something and get a statement? And I heard that about living with a boyfriend affecting you too, but I dont understand what way it goes-as in you get less or more from living with him... Eastbono, could you give an example of it? Like say you were getting €188 and he earned €300 a week, how much would you get then? I tried lookin it up on citizens information but its very confusing...

If you are in receipt of JSB it will not matter unless your OH is also in receipt of JSB and then its the couple rate, its only if you are in receipt of JSA that your OHs earnings are assessed.

I thinkl I will be on JSA when I re-register-I was on BTEA up til now and JSA back in August... I was thinking of moving in with him in september, what would that mean? Sorry, I dont mean to hi-jack the thread, just picking your brains :)

Is he working or claiming jsa or jsb... if he is working then your means will have to be reviewed and his earnings will be taken into account. If he is on jsb or jsa then the most you can receive is €188 plus i think its €124 approx for an adult dependant so €312 in total.

He's a Fas apprentice... Thats not €312 between us is it?!  Wow the system is so confusing... Well fingers crossed I'll be happily working by then anyway...

Is he getting paid by fas. Is he now on block release. €312 is the approx rate for a couple on Jobseekers Allowance or Benefit. You can also apply for rent allowance from you community welfare officer and if you are both still not working come winter you can apply for fuel allowance once you are long term unemployed. Medical card is another thing you can apply for.

Currently being paid by his employer... I applied for fuel allowance last year and didnt get it as I was "living with someone who is not my dependant", it was them who sent out the form without me requesting it! Ha ha :P Ah I hope it'll all work out anyway, hopefully it wont take long to switch over to another county either. Thanks for your help! :)

No prob. It depends on how fast each office is with transfers.

Fuel forms are automatically sent out to people who are long term unemployed and you do not qualify if the person you are living with is employed.

It doesn't matter where I live at all, that doesn't come into it because I was working full time for 2 years and have enough stamps to get the full dole, regardless of where I live or who I live with. Its just that all my documentation is sent to my home address and I have no proof of address for Dublin. I reckon until I get a bill or statement sent to the house in Dublin and take it into the office in Dublin, I will have to collect it at home....so much petrol!!!! :(

Ya I'd say you're right there.. They dont like people claiming from a county they arent living in... I'd say get it sorted asap though. Even just get the bank or credit union to send a bill to your address in dublin-or go in and talk to them!... Or citizens information...
