how many about poplulation do you have to know?

    Calcutta - high density, poor
Hong Kong - high density, industrialized

    Mali - low density, poor
West of Ireland - low density, poor compared to rest of Ireland, far from center of EU

South of Italy, mountains, far from center of EU

Another option is to do North (low) and South (high) Norway. You could also do Brazil - the Amazon and south-east Brazil.

I would just learn one foreign one and then West of Ireland and Dublin for Ireland.

Oh...I was planning on just doing the West of Ireland and Dublin to contrast two regions in the same country...then Mali for low population density and Calcutta for high population density. I thought one from each would be fine....

Are you confusing Norway with Sweden. Norway is not on the syllabus. Remember also you may get a short answer question relating to any of the regions so have a knowledge of them all. If you are doing OL you can choose between Calcutta OR Hong Kong, if you're doing HL you do both

    The other areas are:
    Dublin/West of Ireland
    Mali
    Sweden or Italy
West Germany (yes the syllabus is that old ;) )
    Brazil
    Calcutta
    Hong Kong

    Say what?

I've completely ignored Hong Kong and Brazil, as has my teacher...

I don't know, I don't think it matters because they just ask "from a region you have studied" or something like that, they're never really specific questions.

Ughhh when I look back at exam papers from most years I feel like it'd be grand to sit the paper, but I have a nasty feeling about this year. I'm very selective about the parts of Geography I like and remember, and last year's paper was a dream for me...hence by the blurry laws of prediction, this year's is unlikely to be as good for me.

Im the complete opposite XD Pretty much every year except last year suits me completely, and then there ware about 4 parts in the long questions that i was less sure of, so hopefull the laws of prediction work in the opposite way too XD

Geography was the subject I got highest marks in the pre's (ex CSPE) and its also the subject I did the least study for (ex CSPE) so not particularly worried

If you had to narrow down what to study for Geography, what would you do?

It's too late now to cover the course and I was wondering what sections I should focus on? I already know the ordnance survey and aerial photograph stuff, so that's one question out of the way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,654 ✭✭✭shadowninty

Are you interested in a particular part?
If you are read over it a few times, but don't bother with practice Qs
I have to do long question practice for physical geography as I'm not that interested

Also I'd look over weather, everyone I know forgets it (incl me) and the peat industry

Learn a feature of erosion + deposition for rivers, same for seas. Comes up practically every year!

    Im doing:
    River erosion: Interlocking spurs
    River deposition: Levees

    Sea erosion: Cliffs
    Sea deposition: Sand Spit

Most important one to know bar os maps imo.

Yeah, I learned Levees and Waterfalls last night, so I should be sorted for that!

Depends if they ask for a region or city or country or if its to be developed/developing bbz :)
Hong Kong is just like a developed highly populated place whereas Kolkata isnt
And Brazil is developing.. As is Mali tbf, but youre kinda better off knowing the 4 :/

Mali isn't really developing... well its developing slowly
    Sorry, just semantics :o
