ofc tho the more you pay for the lock the better it is! i dont buy any lock for less then 70-100e
Also use 2 locks that are not the same this will mean the rober will have to uses more then one tool to take you bike aka less likly to try take yours! then the next bike with one good lock if you get me.

I'd be fairly confident with the orange Kryptonite variety which are a bit cheaper.

No worrys - but in the end someone trying to rob a bike is going to know a halfords 20e lock from a 100e lock,
Also dont forget about Bicycle Insurance - for a small price you can get pice of mind! personly id go for it if the bike cost a bit!

An alternative to insurance is to put money aside into a dedicated account until you have enough to replace your bike, then leave the money there. It's more or less what I've always done; I think Richard Ballantine recommended it in one of his books.

Depends how much your bike is worth!

Mine was about €1000 new, and I think the OP's bike is about the same. I'm not sure how much insurance for that would be, but at least if you manage to save the money you won't have any wrangling with the insurance company.

Their safety tips have the usual flaw in their prioritisation, which I won't specify here, as we've had enough of those threads lately.

I have a Kryptonite and it weighs a tonne. Tbh, thieves tend to be opportunistic. If your bike is no stand-out and you do a better job locking it up than those who own the bikes around yours have then it's highly unlikely that yours will be the one which is taken. Safety in numbers. Besides that, take it indoors with you whenever you can.

could be untrue but i heard the kriptonite locks although can withstand a bowcutters can be broken with a hammer . yes bike worth over 800 , would kill me if it was robbed.

tnx for all the tips guys. really great help.

With regard to vulnerability to hammer attacks:
The Fahgettaboudit Mini is the stiffest, toughest lock we've ever put to the sword. In test one we couldn't make it budge at all - no amount of hammer, axe or lever even made a dent. At one point we used our 4.5ft lever in the shackle and two people (25st+) hung off the bar and it still didn't budge.

The problem with the Fahgettaboudit is the price (you get what you pay for), the weight (inevitable with a very strong lock) and the portability (I've found a way to fit mine to my rear rack, but other than that you need to put it in a pannier or a backpack).

bike locks are all about creating inconvenience for the thief more/harder the locks the less likely he is to rob it

yes is why useing 2 locks of 2 diff types works so well as the thief then needs more then one tool to take the bike so he/she is more likly to go to the next bike and take that!
