Being informed of a job offer?

Had an interview there a couple of weeks ago and had not heard anything back since - bearing in mind they told I would have heard last week. So I rang today about it and I was told that everyone should have been informed by now and that they posted out to everyone and that it must be still in the post.

I was under the illusion that if successful with a job you would be either informed by phone or email - any correspondece with regards interviews and that has been by phone or email so far.

Is it pretty much safe to say I didn't get the job or do some firms still issue job offers via post, without contacting you via phone or email first?

its so mean - hubbie went for an interview, really positive and then nothing. no letter, phone calls and emails ignored - he felt like a stalker! worst thing was he had not had an interview in his life (worked steadlily all his life) and he really wanted some feedback.

so sorry - hope i'm wrong and you get a pleasant surprise.

Alas OP it really doesn't look too good for you - nothing worse than having to chase up employers for news because they fail to keep to their promised time-frames.
